Is this normal on a AFR head?
hey guys..i finally got everything i needed to do my H/C/I swap so i decided to take a look at my AFR head which i bought i while ago and i noticed that where the rocket arms seat it seems to me like they are chipped... what do you guys think...will this be a problem? im sorry for the pics quality i had to take em with my cell phone.

when i bought my brand new AFRs not so long ago, mine looked the same. I called AFR and they said its normal, that the casting slag was just knocked off before the milling making it look like a chip... I thought for the money i just spent, they should look like diamonds, but owell. still on the car without a hiccup...

It's not an issue....
Guys....thats simply a flat pad that a rocker pedestal attaches to. It doesn't have to look pretty to work properly....it just needs to be machined flat which it obviously is and there is plenty of aluminum there to support all the rocker arms, pedestal stand, etc.
That said I would like to add that we do care about aesthetics as well and are working with the foundry to improve the tooling in that area. Look to see some improvements there in the next three to four months but rest assure its nothing but a slight cosmetic issue at this point.....nothing to worry about regarding function or proper operation of your new heads.

Focus on the porting work, chamber and port designs, quality of the parts and the overall execution of all the machine work.....ultimately that is what your really paying for.
I promise though before this year is out the rocker pads will look "pretty".....LOL

Tony is right (of course), those are castings to support the rocker plates and hold the bolts - not material to the performance or reliability of the heads.

lol i think you're right, and i don't really care about the look i just had a doubt on that little detail...thanks for clearing things out....And i have another question for you Tony since those 205's have a 72cc chamber and im planning on going with an n2o set up how much would it be safe to mill to bump the comp up?
