Default 6.0????

Ok I found a 6.0 locally for $550 complete out of an 03 truck that has about 90k miles. The guy wants $550 if I pull it and I get the wiring harness and the computer as well as acesseries. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should get it and just store it until I'm ready for it, or buy some other parts with the money I'd spend on the motor.

Basically is the deal on the motor too good to pass up on? Or could I wait and find the same deal?

Personally I'd jump on it. Junkyards here in Wy and northern CO are selling LQ4s for $1200 or more.

Thats what I thought. I browsed around on the net and most of everything was $1200+

It will be a year or 2 before I would put it to use is the only thing, but for the price I'm having a hard time passing it up and I figured I could pull off the heads and intake and sell them for what I would have in the motor making it basically free.

Oh the mind is wondering haha, thanks guys

That's a great deal. I bought my '05 LQ9 for $1000 and it has 70k on it. Pick that motor up, sell the heads and intake and do the L92/LS3 top end setup.

I bought a LQ9 intake to oil pan with harness, pcm acc, and 42k on it for 1200, they can be found for a good price if you look around some. Good luck

Wow really? When I was thinking about building a 6.0 iron block I bought the short block from a local junk yard for $300.00. I gave the block to a buddy of mine and I still have the crank.

I looked for months and never found a deal that good. 6.0's are hard to find around here and they want a fortune for the low mileage ones.

It is just a bad time for me as far as cash goes. I put my shotgun on a local message board and if it sells I'm picking up the motor.

Whats the compression ratio on a stock 6.0? And what are you guys putting down rear wheel power wise on the stock short block? I plan on keeping the bottom end stock and just doing heads, cam, and intake and supporting mods, if I end up with it

Well since its an 03 shortblock my guess its an lq4 and if i am correct lq4's have a 9.4:1 compression ratio due to their dished piston.
I could be wrong tho.

I do get the heads with it and the intake, the pcm, the maf, and the wiring harness.

9.5:1 isn't too terrible, but I would rather have closer to 10.5:1 or 11:1

i think you have the right idea!
get it and sell the stuff off of it that you KNOW you won't need, and at worst you have $100-200 in it after you've sold the stuff. thats still great!
thats what i did with my 6.0 and it worked out great for me.

BUY IT!!!!! I paid $1500 for my long block with 30K on it. You can pick up some LS2 pistons pretty cheap, you want those because they are the flat tops and will bump the compression up. Keep the 317 heads and mill them and that will bring the compression up even more, or sell them for some LS6 heads.
