Default Weight issues with the LQ4 in my lowered 98 TA?

My LS1 is doing the metal shavings dance, so I think it is time to put a new motor in there. I don't want to half assedly put the LS1 together, I want to do it right when I rebuild it. The issue is that I don't have the scratch to rebuild the LS1 right now, so I'm thinking of buying a used LQ4 to stick in the car for the next year or so.

My car is lowered with the BMR springs, and right now the tires hit the plastic fender liner ever so slightly when at full lock. I'm wondering what kind of issues I'm going to have with the extra 70lbs in the front.

I can relocate the battery to the trunk if that will help issues, I have an Optima red top in there right now.

Help me out here guys, I need to do something soon, I want to drive my car to the beach at the end of the month with my family.

Mine sat like a 4x4 with the stock springs in it, when I put the iron block in it dropped 2 inches and looks fine now. I wouldnt attempt it with lowering springs in already. Mine has a turbo up front, battery, but then again has a tubular k-member and it still squats pretty good.

I have a feeling IF you put an iron block in there, your going to need to put in a heavier then stock spring and have it ride near a stock height and the setup should balance out.

What poundage does those lowering springs run at?

I know stock should be right around 300.

The BMR springs are at 550lbs linear in the front.

The 6.0L is only really 70lbs heavier, right?

So I relocate the battery to the trunk, that shaves off about 35lbs, egr/air has been removed, that's got to be another 10lbs. Can 25-35lbs extra on the front really drop it that much?

At worst its worth giving a shot but I suspect your tire clearence will be VERY close and if you still have those pimp rims on the car you run close to cutting a tire down.

My exp comes from stock length springs and in this case something in the 300# minimum to even 325 could be required.

BUT as I think about it I would say try it out first, it almost looks like a situation where it is almost like bolting on a turbo or blower set up, all the extra wight should actually be more then the 25-35 your anticipating.

If you have not, check the suspension section specifically for some opinions on nose heavy lowered cars.

True, worst case I gotta swap them off if they hit, and I can test that in the driveway. Swapping out springs is only 30 minutes of my time, so can't hurt to try.

I'm also about 40lbs lighter than when I put the springs on the car, so I should be good to go now.

I hear you there.

I am on a campaign to drop some weight personally, sad to say if I cut what I think I can do a tenth or tenth and a half with out doing anything to the car. That be sick.

Def try it out in the driver way and see. Let us know.

Good question, I have a tubular control arms and k member on (for the time being eibach springs) but will be adding BMR's this winter. DO any of you guys that have 6.0L iron blocks have pics?

Here is mine now..

I had a 2 1/2 inch drop on my TA n when I put the LQ9 I had to get 1 1/2 because it was hitting on the front tires. It's still look good on the drop part. So those 70lbs matter a lot.

its just under a 70 pound difference, like 66 or something, it did drop it a little more but i havent felt it touch the fender liners.
