Engine Rebuild Kit
My '00 Trans Am has about 167K miles on it and im looking into an engine rebuild kit but its hard to find a kit for a good price...i know summit has 1 for 600. Im not gunna be doing an all out performance build to the engine just try n keep it stock to a few bolt ons like headers and build the heads up and a cam nothing big just a 220 or 224. i just want to rebuild it with all new pistons bearing gaskets etc. who sells a kit for that application.
It's always recommended you send a block out for inspection and cleaning, also to get it ready for a rebuild kit. That does cost a little bit of $$$ but its good practice and piece of mind.
I have seen some guys basically tear down a motor, clean surfaces, wash it out, hone the cyl (clean up), re wash, dry, and then throw it back together and paying minor attention to clearences and TQ specs and run fine.
So take it for what you will.

I just pulled the engine on my vette w/ 160k on it. Pistons were perfect. I put new rings, bearings, oil pump in it and thats it.
If they are in perfect shape, the factory machined surface is still on the outside.....i dont see a reason to replace them.
160k on these....the fine machine lines are still all the way around with no scuffing.
