thats what tsp set me up with. he said just to make sure the shop checks the preload. i was gonna ask about the pushrods but im using a stock gasket so he set me up with those. if they are too long or short ill get the right sized ones, but considering its part of the heads/cam package i guess they kinda have to send something huh?

That's been a question for MANY years, but people have always been fine doing it this way. You make an educated guess at it to try and avoid downtime and order them. You measure for pushrod length before buttoning it all up, and if you got the wrong ones you're only out a few bucks in shipping back and forth (they only way 1 pound after all). If you guessed correctly, you saved a couple of days and $10 or so of ground shipping or one day and $40 or so in next day air shipping. As long as these engines have been around, the guess is fairly educated

i trust you guys. i mean how many combos have you set up now? and id bet you guess right on that more than most people think. if i was going to guess myself when i ordered them i would have ordered the same size. im running stock gaskets and with the ls7 lifters it sounded like the most obvious choice

I hope that LS2 chain didnt come pre-lubed for your carpets sake! I need to get a set of heads, but there are just to many options out there these days. Its like walking down a street just packed with steakhouses and all the owners standing out front saying their stuff is the best. No one sets out to make a subpar part, but unfortunately some people have found better ways than others.

Glad you are finally going to be on the road in the LS1 again!

My biggest concern about the push rods is that the base circle on my 228r is about .040 less in diameter than the stock cam and the 7.400" push rods are causing a fair deal valve train noise. The 7.35 with ls7 lifters should be exactly the same as stock ls1 lifters with a 7.4 push rod. Great power but noisy.

You need to measure.

FWIW, I just installed a 228r yesterday and it required a 7.5 length pushrod for proper geometry.

Wow that's a really big difference. I'd imagine if I did need a 7.5 I'd be at zero lash right now. Did I mention my valve train was noisy? :-p

Whelp bought the comp cam ones off Jegs for $11.99. Cheapest thing I've gotten for the car in a long time.

my shop will check to make sure they will work. if not get the right size. no issues there. like i said texas speed has it as part of the package i bought so they [B]have[B] to send me something. we'll see if it was right the first try thats all. not gonna keep em if they arent the right length

This one was rare, I've never done a cam-only car that required that long of a pushrod. I was in such disbelief I remeasured like 5 times, on 5 different cylinders just to make sure I wasn't being retarded.

Most "cam only" cars need a 7.425-7.450 pushrod. This whole "7.4 is close enough" mentality needs to go away. I RARELY ever get a cam only install that calls for stock length. The base circles of the cams are smaller, therefor they need longer pushrods.
