Want to pick a strong boomstick...Gas Mileage be damned
Thanks to a current board member here (don't know his handle unfortionately) I finally have an LS1 & T56 for my 69 Nova and want to plan for my next cash endeavor
I want to have a good size cam in this thing but want to make sure its reliable. This is NOT a DD and is meant for weekend road shredding and 1/8th mile runs here and there. What I want to know is how far can an LS engine take without changing pushrods or lifters (new springs are a given)? Eventually I plan to upgrade both but I just want to get an idea of what the limits are
My engine will have a set of 1 3/4 Long Tube Hookers (just came a few hours ago ), ported LS1 Heads (not sure on the valve sizes yet), and little things like a ported MAF, decent Air filter etc.
Throw me some ideas, I want to be able to drive this car around but its not taking any cross country trip or anything. 15mpg would be amazing

pushrods are a must, stock ones are trash and bend easily
I would shoot for something in the mid230s duration on the eps lobes
don't forget a tune will be required for any cam swap too

new cam = new pushrods. as thunderstruck said, i also reccomend the EPS lobes for the cam as well, people been putting down some good numbers on them. TSP 's 1 7/8 headers have proven to put down more power almost everywhere on a stock LS1, so a cammed one they will for sure pay off. DO NOT port the MAF. Hell, since it is only a nice day cruiser, ditch the MAF and go with a speed density tune. Just a few extra thins that will gain some ponies. Oh, and which intake manifold are you going with?

MS4 all the way me and 3 of my friends run them even on DD cars and make 420whp w stock heads and bottom end and they sound BA!!! .649/.609 239/242 111LS
Make sure your stock head have not been milled you could get away w .002-.005 on just a clean up job but no more than that to play it safe see how your running 1/8 at the track im guessing your running a 4:10 area gear and these cams love gears.......forget the MAF and get a Spd Density Tune trust me you'll love that cam weve been running ours for 2 1/2yrs now w no prblems

Sorry, but I dont give out full specs on the cam. I can say mid 230's on the intake and mid 240's on the exhaust with a .600/.615 lift.

As far as the MAF goes is it really worth that much to delete it? I don't mind Im just curious

I would like to get an opinion on a particular cam. Its a lot smaller than what we were disscussing earlier but it "appears" to be decent but I'd like an opinion

Would this thing be a pain to ride around in and gag at a stoplight? I want more power but I do want to be able to pop the interstate with this thing as well. Great combo right lol

it should drive like stock with any tune at all, but I wouldn't expect to get over 370rwhp from it
if you decide to go with that low of duration I would at least look for something with more lift

I have a book on Ls1's that I've been using as a guide and it made it sound like a cam that I had originally in mind was far too radical for street use. So correct if I'm wrong but something with at least a .580ish lift and and 230/225 or so would be a pretty decent choice correct? What about the LSA? 112 or so maybe
BTW out of curiosity how does the cam in your car perform? Stupid question but do you figure 15 mpg is an average for you (knowledge nerd here lol)

Thats still a smallish cam for a weekend only cruiser and a t56. If it were an auto I'd say ya good size but not with a stick. With the ls1's you can use a large cam and still get great driveability and decent gas mileage. I'd suggest an eps lobe design they are a brand new lobe design that make great power and off awesome driveability. Give patrick G, or Geoff at EPS a call and they can either spec you out a cam or point you in the right direction. If that makes any sense (Long winded BSing)
One thing in selecting this cam I would prefer to avoid is flycutting my pistons. I hope I'm not trying to seem like a hypocrite wanting to have a perfect world but I'm new to these engines workings. I don't fully know their limits and etc.

Wow the power band on that thing is ridiculous. From 1800-7200??
That seems like an awesome cam. Could the stock rockers be used with that one?
