Default Could someone compare these two cams for my setup...

383 LS1 being made milder to pass Cali.

I have come across two cams that according to people with tuning experience say will pass.

The first is the CheaTR cam (219/230 117)
The second is a 224/228 114+4
Both with around .600 lift.

So what are the differences between the two...
Mileage
Idle smoothness
Power

The CheaTR cam should pass smog easy, the 2nd Cam(224/228) will depend on the tune. They both should get good MPG with a good tune, but the 2nd Cam should make more power.

Have you considered a cam similiar to the CheaTR but with a 115lsa or tighter(better low end power)?
EPS has a couple of shelf grinds that would be good, 218/226 113lsa and a 222/226 113lsa. You also could go with a custom TSP cam with a 218(.605"xfi)/230(.604" XFI) 115lsa.

I appreciate the input guys, thanks. I have low end coming out my ears. I had an even bigger cam a while back and had no low end and a high stall. I put the 3.73s in to make up for it and it did well. Then that engine decided it didn't want to go anymore, so the rebuild was to a 383. Now I have way too much low end. That is really why the CheaTR has almost become my decision. I would love to have a smooth idle again and if I lose any low end, who know, maybe this thing will be a better driver and my wife won't be so afraid of it.

Thanks for the opinions guys, they have been helpful and I welcome more.

The EPS 222/226 on like a 114-115lsa get's my vote. Def tighten up the lsa. A 117 would be a waste IMO.

I get that part were your wife was afraid!! I took my girlfriend to work one day and when she got out she was almost crying don't get me wrong i was driving normally no hard pulls nothing and ever since she wont get on my car!! try the CheaTR cam if you don't like it you can always change it and next time go with a custom cams that will meet your needs

FYI you also could go with a custom 224/228 116lsa, that will give you -6*overlap which is even less then the california smog standard cam, a 224/224 114lsa which has -4* overlap.

heh, imagine when she saw the 9.8 run. I came around and she was in tears yelling, "you're never driving that damned thing again; were selling it tomorrow." I'm glad she cooled off quickly and even I was ordering mods the next day - greatest wife ever!

I'm definitely getting the QTP front cover to make it easier "in case..."
