Question Engine pinging?

Hello,

i hear a very noticable sound from the engine which, i think is pinging. i can hear it very good in 2nd gear, ~1000rpm-3000rpm with 1/4 - 1/2 throttle. today it threw an error code, but it did go away after about 20 minutes.
i ordered an obd2 scanner because my stupid opel dealer in germany could not read the code..... fuel filter is on the way and tomorrow i'm gonna clan the maf.

is it really possible that a basically stock ls1 pings that bad and does not retard the timing?

thanks,
patrick

if this just started you may have some bad fuel.

i read the error codes and there are four of them

P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 - System Too Lean (Bank 2)
P0327 - Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Low Input (Bank I or Single Sensor)
P0420 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

any ideas?

the short hose from the pcv valve to the manifold is rotted. hopefully a new one cures the problem!

a lot of the time a dirty MAF will cause sensors like your o2's to run like ****. when was the last time your MAF was cleaned? clean the other sensors in your air intake and then give it a few drive cycles and see what it does

i cleaned the maf and the iat sensor twice. the problem was a damaged hose from the pcv valve to the intake.

today i noticed what i believe is a lean backfire through the manifold. happens above 4k rpm with wot. otherwise it drives fine.

trouble codes are P0327 and P0420. but no "system too lean" this time...

The 420 code is for the cats correct? I so gm extended t5he warranty on them i believe for 10 yrs so you can have that fixed at no cost. The other code is for a knock sensor and it needs to be replaced because it will pull timing from the engine causing loss of power.

How did you fix that hose Nebu? Mine is rotted just like that in the exact same place. I wrapped black electrical tape around it for now.

Thanks Nebu. I've been wondering how to repair this. Mine broke/rotted in thst "fat" section of the hose. It looked not so simple to fix.
