Default Are these lifters done?

I was cleaning the head gaskets off today and decided to pull the lifters and trays out just in case, and I found this on the 8 passenger ones. Drivers side looked fine. Cam has matching stuff on it on those lobes.

I'm pretty sure both the lifters and the cam need to be replaced.

Any number of problems. Too many to try and pin down really. Normally they consist of the normal oiling issues, then maybe contaminants in the oil, not changing it properly/on schedule. Foreign debris. The list goes on for a while.

I was suspecting oiling problems, since the bad ones are all on the same bank. Thats making me think twice about going FI with this shortblock.

Arc00TA,

This can happen from getting on it too soon after start up. The passenger side is the last part of the engine to get oil & it get's there slowly on pre-04 LS1 blocks due to the narrow rear oil passage. It takes a couple of minutes for oil to get to the passenger side valvetrain. Always, wait a few before getting on it or just wait 'till she reaches normal operating temps. before moving the car.

You can watch for yourself, if you want to see it. Rig the coils up so that the car can be run without the valves cover on & watch how the oiling occurs. It will be a little messy & may get oil on headers, but, worth a look.

I know the oiling path from looking at the diagram of it, thats why I was suspecting oiling. Makes sense what you're saying. I never get on it until the engine is up to full temp. I've only owned this car for a few months though, so I can't say about the previous owner.

I guess this give me an excuse to put in LS7 lifters and a FI cam, since I pulled all this apart in preparation for my front mount turbo.

I tried that on a DOHC engine and will never do it again. It flung oil everywhere for the 5 seconds it ran before I shut it off and said WTF just happened?

Well, worse luck, my cam bearings are fried too. The center one has gouges I can easily catch my fingernail on. I wonder how the main bearings are looking.

What oil are you using and how often were you changing it?

I've changed it 3 times since I got it, 2500 miles each time with GC 0W30, thats what I've used in my LS1's for the last 5 years with good results.

Yep, Its rebuild time. I just pulled the #1 rod bearing and it looks the same. I'm considering my options right now

We can help you out from just rings and bearings to a rotating assy to an entire short block/long block. Let me know what you decide to do definitely!

Unfortunately, I just spent all my "mod money" on a front mount turbo kit. I have like $4000 worth of parts coming to my house and now a useless block. I was planning to run 6-7 PSI on the stock shortblock for a while until I can afford a forged one. Unless you guys take payments I'm going to have to sit on it for a while

Well the new motor is here, Nice little iron 5.3, its almost breaking my shitty vatozone engine stand. Also got some PAC beehives from WS6store, theres a slight problem with those as you can see in the picture... Also got my 6.0 head gaskets and ARP bolts from scoggin.
