Default Head/Cam Combo

Looks like I'm gunna be able to put some money into my 02 z28, so I'm looking for some opinions as to what head/cam combo I should go for.

Currently running pacesetter LT's, DMH cutout, corsa catback, LS6 clutch, 8mm MSD wires, K&N intake (not a lid). Will be upgrading to FAST 102mm manifold and throttle body at time of head/cam swap.

Car is a daily driver, so I don't wanna get too extreme with fuel consumption.

Any ideas?

TSP head/cam pkg,or a vengeance racing head/cam pkg.you can get a ls6 intake for $300 ,$70 for pnp 78 mm TB.the fast intake is $840 ,and $200 for the ls2 fuel rail kit you need for it...$350 for a 90mm or bigger TB.

What your budget? Also I think the fast 102 is to big for stock block. The 90 or 92 will work just as good if you just want a fast.

If you go too big on the fast it will hurt you.

Probably between $2-3000. Do the gains from the FAST manifolds really justify the price? Or should I just keep the stock LS6 and port my tb?

I would keep the ls6 and port the TB, but just me. It's still your money.

Incorrect, Ive installed many 102mms on 5.7L LS1s. But the 102mm FAST has the ability to run with a 90/92mm throttle body. I run a 90mm on mine. My brother has one installed on his cam only LS1, stock heads, no headers, 223/231 .600ish cam, and a FAST 102mm intake and FAST 102mm throttle body.

Incorrect again, the size of the throttle body has NOTHING to do with being "too big" or "to small". The internal runners determine that, they creat their own velocity/flow to the port.

102mm isn't big on the 5.7 and won't kill it anymore . my buddy was running the ls6 intake in his H/c setup then installed 102 fast intake with t/b 102 and jumped around 20-25rwhp .

wanna gain rwhps , pay

I Disagree also on the fast 102/102 being to big. For the money you will spend on the fast combo and the gains you will get isn't really worth it IMO. like said above though, you want the rwhp then pay but if your on a tight budget porting your tb and possibly your LS6 manifold will be fine with a good head/cam combo especially if your still trying to keep it a DD. If in fact you do go with the 102/102 you will see better gains over the ls6 and even the smaller fasts like 90 or 92 but if matched with a good cam and heads you will achieve more out of the 102 manifold and be closer to its real potential. Hope this helps clear some things up for you.

JUst an FYI, peak HP isnt everything when it comes to a good combo. Yea he may have made 25 more rwhp from 6200-6400 but from 4-5k he may have only gained 5rwhp. Post a graph before and after and chances are it wont be as dramatic as you say. I will say for a fact he didnt gain 20-25 throughout the entire rpm range. And also say that do a back to back with a fast 90 or 92 and the 102 and youll see similar or even more power gains lower in the rpm range instead of at redline.

FAST intakes are very predicatable. 3500RPM and below they are tyically even to LS6, at 3500RPM they start to take off with nice gains of 10-15hp from 4000 through redline.

yep that's correct , am with u in this point , yeah #'s not everything some cars with low numbers beats high #'s , I didn't says that the fast 102 intake is the best thing there but when we installed into my buddies car we noticed the difference before/after , the car has 59cc Trick flow heads , MS4 112 LSA , nitrous out let 250HP and pulling very hard N/A and with the shot
