Lookin good, can't wait to strap on some 243s. If it's not too late in the process, get an 04+ LS6 Valley Cover with the internal PCV. You can cap off and remove your old PCV hoses. I have seen a GREAT reduction in oil consumption since installing mine..

I have a feeling you will be closer to 400hp with those heads/cam. I have a similar 230/230 cam with stock 243 heads, the Torque is great mid-range, right where you need it. Are you swapping out for an LS6 intake as well. Thats another 10hp right there and a quick swap since the LS1 is off right now.
Here is a great link I used for the first time I went to start the car up after my H/C swap....see post #10......

Only if you are a shop. I think the average Joe can do whatever.

To the OP, that cam is not junk. There are people running high 10's with that cam.

I would suggest seeing if you could mill the heads to get some more compression. If you have to flycut the pistons then it wouldn't be worth it IMO.

I had to flycut my pistons anyway so I had my 5.3 heads cut to 59cc.

I milled the heads down to .020 to bump up the compression already and thanks! I know I won't be going that fast especially with stock style heads and 3000+ DA but hopefully I'll be bordering 11's!

Crap I forgot you did that. Disregard!

One thing about the reverse split cam is they like a really good exhaust system. I would suggest a flowmaster merge. With the e cutout you are using you should have some great flow.

I was already lookin at flow master merge. Just seeing how much the install costs would be and if it's worth the power gains which I'm sure would be next to minimal..

Over the past few days I cleaned up the block, finished that today, then swapped cams and changed the oil pump out. Pretty much putting it all back together. I plan to have it finished by thursday at the latest. Hopefully Tuesday

All that's left is the radiator, AC condenser, headers and y pipe. Should finished it all up in about 2 hours on thursday.

Just so everyone knows, to check the push rod length, I colored the center of the top of 2 springs (next to each other) with a sharpie and tightened them all down to 22 ft-lbs and spun the motor over by hand 3 times then loosened it.

If the line that is made is too close to the edge of the circle on the motor side, the push rods are too short. If its on the outer edge away from the motor, they're too long. Mine was almost directly in the center. I used 7.4 hardened (not chromoly because it's a manual) and the heads were milled .020

Nice tip man, I might actually try mine and see what it looks like. I have a little sewing machine noise with my 7.4's.
You moving along now should have it done soon!

im def not an expert, but, doesnt that only tell you if your rockers need to be shimmed ?

i thought pushrod length was determined once the rockers are shimmed correctly, then with a solid lifter and a comp pushrod checker you get the length, then you add .50 or whatever preload you want.

I'm not entirely sure. I was told by a very experience gm/ls mechanic.

I finished yesterday and got it started! I'll post a video up later today!

Tuning next week and track times soon to come!

when you order a cam from tr you tell them what your car has done. as of lately i've been told if the heads have been milled you need a different pushrod, other than that your fine and with any of thunders cam's you should be using stock rocker arms anyway, never heard of them being shimmed

now it's making a weird ticking noise from the motor. not really consistent. It ticks then stops, then ticks. Power goes in and our. I drove it maybe 10 miles max home and not above 3300 rpm.
