Yah, well I still believe in Santa Clause. That doesn't mean that my reality matches the reality of others whom now where big boy pants.
This was a good/informative thread that is turning to **** by recent statements being made by people who are either uninformed or have not read all of the posts in the thread. In either case, this thread should be locked & made into a sticky.

What are you talking about erik, you've never seen the countless number of pass. side cylinder head and valvetrain failures due to lack of oiling?????
I mean come on, it take minutes for the oil to get to that side. 35% of my business last year was replacing passenger side components in the earlier motors due to lack of oiling.
LOL!!!

Maybe since the opposing side has no main oiling drilled to it though it will also flow the other way around there and help oil the front mains a little better? You'd have to log oil pressure in a running engine at the front and the back with and without this mod and see what you get. Then you'd really learn something. From what I have seen so far still though it does not seem to be a big deal though.

Very good topic here....
I have a la motor I am getting ready to go through and was wondering how all this nodding to the oil system has worked out. Is their any issues out their now that you have run the engine for some time now.

Only the early LS1 blocks lack the channel as well as all of the iron truck blocks. The LS6 and later LS1 blocks, most '99 and newer, have the cross channel in the back.

Sorry to bring this one back from the dead, but....
I have both an early LS1(97' C5) and an 04' 5.3L out of a Yukon.
What ever happened to this? I found this article that points out to not use the early LS1 engines for high performance apps, is this the same thing this photo shows?

And if this was really an issue, seems the aftermarket would have just came out with a better rear cover with the channel built into it.

That rear channel is not a problem, the early blocks had other things that make them less desirable.
