GM makes 2 different versions of Hot Cam?
Hey guys I was on the Scoggin Dickey Website, and I was looking at hot cam kits. I found 2 cams with very close specs.
LS1 ASA, 226/236 Duration @ 0.050, Hydraulic Roller Camshaft, on a 110 degree LSA. 0.525"/0.525" lift
and the standard Hotcam
LS1 Hot Cam, 219/228 Duration @ 0.050, hydraulic Roller Camshaft on a 112 degree LSA. 0.525"/0.525" lift.
Both cams appear very similar, which one should I go with? What would one require over the other? Thanks!

Those are two completely different cams. The Hotcam was basically a cam made for the LT1 that was designed to be an off the shelf GM cam that people could buy to improve performance. When the LS1 first came out, GM made the exact same came except on an LS1 grind.
The ASA cam is for ASA racing and was specifically designed for use in that racing series. The ASA cam is designed to be a much higher revving cam and maintains low lift because of series limitations.
In my opinion, neiter cam is ideal for most street cars.

Why is that?
Why is that?
If you are building a budget motor and want to spend as little as possible and want a moderate improvement, then go with the Hotcam, but there are so many better choices out there.

What would be a good example of a cam that makes more power AND drives alot better. I still want something wiht the 112 LSA, I like the lope the hotcam makes. The real thing is, I'm a college student, I have rent to pay and other bills. I don't have an extra $500 to fork over for a dyno tune for awhile. I've heard that the Hotcam cam run quite well on stock programming. I've got no problem paying 90 bucks to pop to get a few codes removed, like AIR and EGR, and the rear 02 sensors deleted. I've also considered mail order programming. Any luck with that?

Hell, I'd even take an MTI B1 (221/221 114LSA) over the Hotcam and that will work with stock tuning. If youre hell bent on 112LSA and want it for cheap, then go with the Hotcam. Just dont expect to have the numbers that other guys with larger cams are getting.
i'd get a tr224 114 and set your idle at 800 if you want lope .
and good to see you over here mike
