Default Cartek Stage IIx and LGM G5X1 soundclips... Compare for yourself.

kh24 was nice enough to capture a clip of his car running. He posted a link to it in his thread. His car is the full Cartek stage IIx. This clip through the stainless works full 3" exhaust
http://www.blastic.com/audio/vette.mp3

This is the clip of a G5X1 which was rencently installed in a stock headed Camaro belonging to bigSS. This clip is through my Hooker LTs, ORY, and a cutout. This is a coldstart, idling at 850rpm.

If you listen, neither cam can be mistaken for stock, but both seem to have about the same idle quality. Thanks to both for posting these clips.
I think it is completely fair to say that both have some chop to them, but neither sounds more radical than the other....

Would others concur with this?

I think they "sound" similar as far as chunk. Definatly different though due to the exhaust.. By no means do they sound remotely close to stock. I'm also sure if you were deaf and sat in a stock car and then one of those at idle, you would tell the differnce as well. Both sound great.. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Sounds good; what are the specs on the LGM G5X1 cam?

Granted, with the two different exhausts they will have a different tone, but in terms of the "lope" I think it is about the same.

As for the specs on the G5x1. Those are not published currently.

I'm not sure what info you are trying to get at here, but unless both cars have a similar exhaust setup and both ar idling at the exact same RPM, its going to be hard to make any real comments. On a cold start, a car is going to idle at anywhere between 725 and 1050 with a stock program, depending on coolant temp, etc. Were both cars the same temp and idling at the stock settings (which change with temperature)? Were they both F-bodies having to be merged into a single 3" or was one a y-body with dual exhaust?

Hi Guys,
These sound too cool.

The G5X1 cam was on a LS1 with a stock head. So it had stock compression. With just headers and intake, it made 391 rwhp through a 12 bolt 4:10 rear end ( it is an fbody).

The headers on the car were not a prefered brand, and the dyno run, and sound clip was done through a open pipe, at the rear of the car, so it was full length, but not through a muffler.

The dyno run was done in Chicago.

The idle quality and dirvability is great. This cam (G5X-1) and our original G5 cam are part of our new Cam and head packages along with our G5X-2. "Powerful Drivability"
Thanks,

Lou G

jmx - 1 is an F-Body, 1 is a Vette. But, even with those differences you can still tell the ammount of "chop" that each cam has. I am not talking about how much louder one is over the other or anything of that nature. It really doesn't matter if it is on a Vette or an F-Body, or anything else. AS long as the motors are the same cu in, and the idle speed is fairly close in this case 850 vs 900 then I think you can make a fair comparison on "lope" at idle from listening to them.... I feel like they are fairly similar.

JamMaster,
If you are talking Fbody, then I think Dynatech headers with a Merge collector, and a custom "Y" pipe to an "X" pipe and true duals. Open collectors with 12" dumps for drag racing.

If you are talking C5, well then I have to say that we will have a complete bolt on Stainless steel header, with merge collector with 3"-X pipe and 3 " all the way back to the 2 bolt flange at the cat back. This will be the "Production" version of our LG Long tubes. It will have a slip fit X pipe with an available slip fit Cat. also Much cheaper than our custom long tubes.

We have been working on this lower priced production version for a while now, and it is just 4 to 6 weeks away.

Thanks,

Lou G
