This is the best cam for the CNC heads. It radical, but it is the best. GM spent tons of time and money getting this cam right. 460-470HP in Z06's in race trim...

LS1 Grand-Am Cup, 239/251 Duration @ 0.050, Racing Camshaft
Price: $439.95
Part # 88958606

Advertised Duration Int.: 294
Advertised Duration Exh.: 306
Duration @ 0.050" (I/E): 239 / 251
Lift (I/E): 0.570 / 0.570
Lobe Separation: 106
RPM Range: 4000-7000
Cam Type: Hydraulic Roller

This hydraulic roller camshaft is designed by the GM Racing Division for road racing applications in the Grand-Am series. Serious duration and lift will require that the piston to valve clearance be checked as well as major PCM modifications. For best torque, install the intake centerline 105 for best power install at 107. GM recommends lightweight valves and valve springs from the 2002-03 LS6 engine for use with this camshaft.

Note: When installing this camshaft, it is critical that you use the point of maximum lift on the intake lobe. This is not a symmetrical lobe design!

Nick Fowler from SDPC runs these heads on his own car and reccomends not going over 570 lift.

Keep in mind, and I'm not going to directly answer your question that big cams require more gear than stock, and more converter too, to really shine at the strip.

That being said, I'd like to see someone run the TR 230/224 or a grind like it with those heads and see what power they put out.

I personally would not go over 230 duration for the intake or exhaust the gains are pretty minimal. I think some of the 226 thru 228 duration works great.

The Grand Am Cup cam rocks in my opinion (particularly with those heads). J-Rod is correct, GM has done their research, and this is their result. I run this setup in my 01 vette. You should hear it through cutouts! It is probably too loud for many even through exhaust (I have PRT's).

I can't imagine the Grand Am Cup cam working well in a A4 with a stock bottom end. Anyone else have these heads with a reasonable cam?

How do you think a TR 224/561 112 + 4* advance would do with these heads.Would the p/v clearance be ok,what would be the max lift you could run be with these heads being milled .055 ?

TXNC5,

Did you need to flycut pistons or are you running aftermarket pistons?

Yes, had to have the pistons cut. I am running the Lunati pistons (and crank). I am not happy with the pistons, very, very noisy. I love the cam. I think I give up some torque with the lsa and low cylinder pressure at lower rpm's. I have it tuned pretty well, but I am working out a couple of final bugs.
