Default JUST ordered my cam :)))

Just ordered my cam, I decided to go with the tsp228 with 110lsa (for a nice lopey idle). and of course new ls6 oil pump, and ls2 timing chain and the PAC 1518 valve springs. I just now need to find a compressor tool for them.

I have read a lot of good things about this cam so i hope i am not dissapointed!

Great choice on the cam, I have the same one except on a 110 lsa and for a valve spring compressor check this one out http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-99472-1/ it does 2 at a time,we would take 2 old ones off put 2 918 springs on. We had them all changed in about 45min.

Thank you! You said "I have the same one except on a 110 lsa". Did you mean 110? the one i ordered is also 110lsa. I actually just ordered "tims tool" for the springs since it is much cheaper at 35 and looks like everyone that uses it really likes it.

Default spring tool

Here's a pic of my home made spring tool. It's basically a Larry tool (search) but shorter so that it rides on a socket instead of the edge of the head. Worked great, shown at hardest to reach valve spring.

i got this one off ebay....it worked like a charm......it does ride on the edge of the head, but if your wrap the rear in electrical tape, it won't make a mark

Sorry I ment mine is on a 112 lsa and has a choppy ideal I can only imagine how that 110 is going to sound.

I was curious as to what the XER lobes were, and so i read a little bit into them. Seems like they are supposely harder on the valvetrain??? Has anyone had any problems with these lobes? I would prefer not having to replace springs every 15k miles or so.

We (and everyone else) have been running these lobes for several years now. They will be just fine. I wouldn't worry about hurting the valvetrain. Even with factory rockers, I wouldn't expect any problems at all!

I seriously recommend using a tool like this.

I had the typical spring compressor tool that you twist, and it wouldn't work with my double valve springs and even if it did, it would have been a lot harder to deal with.

Just use a device similar to the picture, it will save you time and money.

Thats a Tim's tool. He sells them on Ebay as well. I have one. It works very good and the price is too good to buy a higher dollar one.
