Default Cam bearings hated their home

I bought a 5.3 to do a budget turbo build. Well as I was tearing down the engine I was pulling the cam out. It did not want to cooperate so I used a little Adam power. Well three cam bearings came out.

My question, yes I searched, would my super amazing brute force knock the cam bearibgs loose? Or am I looking at something else?

Pulling by hand or prying? Pulling by hand they shouldn't come out, they are a press fit.

i agree with 02form. they should'nt of came loose if you used your own strength. now if you used a pry bar thats a different story, but even then they shouldn't of came out as easy as you made it sound.

Thats got to be the most bone-headed thing I've read to date. I hope you aren't gonna be the one re-assembling this engine.

I used my two arms, yes I am assembling it, as a matter of fact buddy I have access to a full machine shop. So if I need to line hone and use over sized bearings, I can do so, just seeing if anyone has had this when tearing down their engine. I was thinking, well damn the last 6.0 i tore down we dd use a cam bearig removal/install tool.
Whats your credentials redssa4? Just curiousif you are some amazing engine builder.. Or another online know it all.

Hes just trying agravate....forget him. I've seen it before, seems gm isn't near as fussy at fitting the bearings as they should be. Noway they should have pulled out by hand.

Looks like you got redA$$4 all figured out!

I just got done disassembling a iron block 5.3L over the weekend and none of the cam bearings were loose. They all were in place when i pulled the cam.
Did you hear this engine running before you pulled it apart? Or was it a salvage yard pull just like my 2 were? It may have spun cam bearings in it caused by low or no oil pressure! Better get them cam bearing journals measured and checked against the spec!

Of course it might be real obvious when you go to install new cam bearings and they press in then fall out the other side of the journal. OUCH!

I have pulled out a bunch of cams, never once yanked out a cam bearing. Put the Rockstar energy drink down and step away from the motor.

The journals look good no major scoring on them. As far as hearing it run, no it was just a junk yard special. The cam itself has some blueing on it but nothing major looks good no major marks or burns on the cam or bearings.

Most of the blocks we have dealt with were SBC's so I wasn't going to dicredit a possible GM mess up lol.

this thread made me laugh, just do a hone and do the next step up to an oversize bearing with the same inner clearance as the original GM bearings. you should be fine

haha ^^ thats funny. I have never heard of bearings coming out that easy... Have them measured just to be sure. As for 01ssreda4 it dont take much to get "ASE" certified and post count means nothing except you have many questions yourself

Got a feeling he was referring to you jerking it out the way you did. Had they not came out you would have likely scarred/damaged them anyhow if not the cam along with it. Internal parts are something that should be handled with car and if ints not coming out try making sure you're holding the camshaft level and not at any kind of angle and try rotating while removing. I've had some be boogers before but never would i jerk/yank on one
