good cam for trans am daily driver
Hey yall, i have a 2000 trans am its a dd. Whats a good cam and supporting mods to get? The motor is pretty much brand new in the car maybe 5k miles. My old motor had a ms3 cam with pushrods and valvesprings only, and it seemed a little much for a dd, and plus the motor blew. I have longtubes, and 4.10s so what yall think? what pushrods? valvesprings? anything else i need to upgrade along with the cam? Thanks

yes you will need pushrods, valve springs, and timing set. i would look into doing a custom grind. something around high 220's to mid 230's duration. maybe on EPS or LSK lobes.

243/249 on a 108 LSA.
Honestly, depends on what you can tolerate for a daily driver. I say call up someone and have one spec'd for you. I had a friend daily a 231/234 111* car with no problems. I would say for an average person something like a TR228 s a good pick up.
However, I still think a custom grind is the way to go. Call up EPS, that is who I will be going to when I decide on heads and am ready to get mine done.

you can DD just about any cam as long as you have a great tuner.. ill almost DD my car in the summer, and im getting the TSP torquer V3 kit, comes with springs, pushrods, and titanium retainers... youll want to have headers/exhaust, along with at least an LS6 intake, try to get a FAST if its in your budget, port n polish your TB to get the full benefits from the cam..(You already have the gears) Get a lid and an air filter also. from what ive read, needing injectors are hit and miss with cam only cars.... pick up a timing set and oil pump as mentioned above. i beleive the V3 is 231/234 .649"/.598' 111lsa...

Everyone's idea of DD is different and it all comes down to personal preference. I daily drove my 02 Ram Air with a TSP 233/239 cam....never had a problem with it and it was a blast to drive at all rpm levels.

Just curious why everyone is gung ho on custom ground cams? There are several shelf cams that were designed/ground the way they are for a reason. A decent daily driver cam is what I put in my vette. 224/224 .581/.581 112 no need for different pushrods.
If its main use is a daily driver.... theres no reason to have a huge cam.... which I think the OP was talking about.
