Default cam dowel question

Ok so after reading the other thread about the rocker and lifter question I got to thinking about when I installed my heads and cam.

So I installed my heads and ls2 trays with ls7 lifters pushed into the trays, then few days later came back to install the cam. So I go to put in the dowel pins in and pass side goes in fine but driver only goes into it up to 3rd lifter so I had to get the pushrod and push the 4th one in then I was able to slide the dowel in and proceeded to swap the cam with no issues.

Was that ok? Did I mess anything up? I figure not but after reading that post and how he could have messed up the lifter I'm tripping a bit thanks

Because I did the heads first. Car has been sitting for months and just the way it worked out while waiting for the cam

Just to make sure I understand. Are you saying you had to move the 3rd lifter in order to get the dowel pin in? I can't see how you could have harmed anything, but perhaps I am missing your point.

Yes. I used the pushrod to push the lifter down to get the dowel rod in. Thought I be ok just never had that happen to me before and you wouldn't believe the luck I've had with this car and engine lol

I am confused by the fact you had to push the lifter down, as opposed to UP to get the dowel pin in. What am I missing?

Exactly that's why I'm tripping Haha. I go to push the rod in and kept getting stuck on the 4th lifter so I get my light and look in the area where I slide it in and clear so get a magnet to pull on the lifter and don't go up because I'm assuming from me shoving the lifter into the tray when installing them. So get a pushrod on it and it goes down and I'm able to slide it in. Weird

Well, the risk is that the dowel pin went in because you pushed the iifter through and it has fallen into the motor, presumably to the oil pan. (This is only possible if the camshaft is already out.) If that is the case you should be able to tell by looking through the pushrod opening - either the lifter is still there (and you are okay) or it is not in which case you are not okay. If the camshaft was still in when you put in the dowel pin, your push likely nudged the cam which helped some how. Best of luck.
