pulling engine, HELP PLEASE!
brian
just put the car up in the air level, high enough that you can work under it but not so high that you can't lift everything out, i'd say about 1.5 feet.
remove front of motor..i.e-radiator, a/c stuff, hoses, water pump, power steering..you can leave the crank pulley on.
remove top of motor..i.e-intake/fuel rails, coil packs, valve covers.
unbolt headers/exhaust. remove the engine grounds..there are three. one on back of drivers side head, one on each side of the block, not hard to find. pull out oil dipstick/misc crap like that.
here's where its up to you. I leave the trans on the motor and pull them together. eitehr way undo the driveshaft, shifter linkage if auto, remove shifter itself if T56, undo all wiring harness connections to trans.
if you want to drop trans first go ahead, but like i said i leave it on and pull it all in one chunk, much easier this way IMO.
hook the hoise chain up to the heads, i'd attatch at the rear on the driver head and the front on the passenger head..use a good long bolt that will hold that chain nice..leave just enough slack to get the hook from the hoist under it, you don't want it too loose.
make sure your took the motor mount bolts(18mm) out, make sure EVERYTHING is undone, no sensors are still plugged in or any crap like that. Then pull the thing out..I always manage to get the motor and trans out together with the hood still on, but some people remove it for clearance.
just go slow and make sure everything clears. you'll need a buddy to help spot to be safe and to help get the trans/ motor combo on the ground to disconnect.
then put the motor itself on and old tire or a stand, don't just let it sit on the ground on the oil pan.
that's a pretty good summary, hope it helps.
