Question first ls swap cam suggestions

This is my first ls swap so go easy on me. car-1979 caprice, engine-2002 lq9 with 75000 miles (stock bottom end) 317 heads. car weight-3750, gears-4:11,trans-700r4. edelbrock victor jr with msd 6010. purpose-daily driver. I found this cam kit on ebay and was wondering which one is better suited for my application and if i should be concerned with ptv clearance . also wondering if i should use the stock style head gaskets or if there is a better brand everyone is using. thanks. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cam-package-includes-cam-springs-pushrods-ls6-style-/270782723699?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories &hash=item3f0be87673[/URL] i goofed on the link copy and paste works

That should be a cool swap !!! Link doesn't work BTW.....If I was you I'd
click on the EPS link on the right of the screen..might have to scroll to find it
and call Geoff Skinner and tell him what you have and what you want. He is
a very knowledgable and patient fella and can custom spec a cam for you
with all the corresponding upgrades (push rods, valvesprings, gaskets, etc.)
Also with 70 thou I'd look into upgrading the oil pump and he could give you
suggestions with that as well. Maybe you should do a build thread in the
swaps/conversion section.....good luck

Call eps or tsp and they will help you out. It seems like you are pretty new to modding motors. Get at least a .650 spring for starters.

You may want to look for a good used cam in the 175-200 dollar range....
in order to meet that budget, a TSP228r, torquer V2 231/234, or something
in that general range. Sounds like you have the heads off so new GM mls head
gaskets and new torque-to-yield headbolts are about $125, pushrods @ $100
New EPS cam is $400(I'd suggest the 230/234)or new Thunder Racing or TSP
are $375....I'd be out pushing that shopping cart around for aluminum cans to
get the funds to make it right...ha ha..but thats just me...good luck
...almost forgot new LS2 chain and oil-pump pickup O-ring....about $60 bucks
New beehive springs are almost 200 or Lunati Gold dual kit is $225 which includes
springs, seats, seals, retainers, and new valve seals....good buy

look at a TSP cam pkg, with in your budget.get a new ls2 timing chain and a cam or head/cam swap kit if you remove your heads...maybe consider milling you heads,if you can afford it.order the cam after you figure out you compression ratio..use a stock gm MLS head gasket, get them at TSP.TSP is very friendly and helpful.

Good luck with that, if you can get all that brand new more power to you. But go too cheap, on cheap quality stuff and itll run......but it wont run for long.

i guess a budget ls build is not as cheap as i was hoping. maybe I'lljust throw in some new valve stem seals, oil pump and call it good for a while. i don't want to put it together with sub par parts. since i have the heads off right now should i upgrade the springs and lifters for a future cam swap or is that a bad idea with the stock cam in. I know with gen1 small blocks that's not a good idea but like i said this is my first ls style engine and i never had roller lifters before. I hate to bother you guys with what might seem like stupid questions but better safe than sorry. this is a pic of the engine i built for the car last year. I sold it to do an ls swap after taking a ride in my buddy's 6.0 chevy truck, i was sold immediately on the ls style engines after a couple of minutes these motors are stock thoroughbreds unlike my sbc 400 that came stock with less than 250 horsepower.

It's an intake Dart use to make called the KOOL KAN. Has a 30% gloss high temp powder coat that kinda looks like plastic.
