Custom components required for 8000 RPM turbo LQ build?
A few friends of mine have been toying around with the idea of a destroked large single turbo or twin turbo ~8000 RPM LSx build (LQ4?). For starters, we know we would want:
Iron block
Custom crank
Billet main caps
ARP main studs (possibly oversized?)
Main girdle
Coated bearings throughout
Forged connecting rods
Forged/coated (heat/wear) pistons
Coated cylinder head chambers/ports
ARP head studs (possibly oversized?)
O-ringed cylinders
What we were somewhat at a loss to was the valvetrain system, and the oiling/cooling system. What would need to be custom fabricated or purchased (if by special order) to safely handle the valvetrain (lifters/cam/pushrods/springs/rockers), oiling and cooling requirements of such a setup at peak RPM?
alternatively, is there a better/easier way to meet that goal of an 8000 RPM LS/LQ build that isn't a dog?

I do not know much about the LS engines. But why would it need to be destroked to get the revs to 8? Do rods break? is the piston speed too high? do the heads no support high RPM (flow or valvetrain) I like high reving engines so I will keep a eye on this thread.

From what people have been doing with stock blocks, it might be worth having a look at 5.3ltr engines? They seem to be able to take alot of abuse and have thicker cylinder walls to boot. plus the smaller pistons held reduce dept.

8000rpms is easy, just use a good dual valve spring(pac #1530). my motor goes 8500 no problem w/ a stock crank.
What stroke were you thinking. i too love short stroke HIGH rpm engines.
I always wanted to build a 299cuin ls motor (4.155 bore with a 2.75stroke)
Something about watching the Tach go over 10,000 gets me wet all over.
i think the 1000+ is a way bigger problem then 8000.
Look at cometic gaskets, they make a steel shim gasket that does not require you to o-ring the block,seen them used at over 1000hp many times. Drill the block for 1/2 inch studs, and it will be fine. A good melling replacement oil pump will be fine, But a dry sump and external pump would be a great upgrade.

in all honesty 8000rpms is not that big of a goal, my stock bottom end h/c/i ls1 with rodbolts and prc dual springs went to 7500 everytime i drove it, and it was fine untill i forgot to put oil in it, doh!
i say do a 05-06 4.8 crank and forged rods + necessary vavletrain and push for 9k rpms
