Default Wrong oil used....need advice

My father has a 1998 Z28(completely stock) and he buys Castrol Synthetic blend 5w30 and has a local auto shop do the oil change. He just called me not even 20 minutes ago and asked me which oil his Z28 uses, because he couldn't remember(can you say BRAIN FART). He accidentally bought 5w40, instead of the 5w30. I use 6 qts in my 1998 Z28, 1999 SS, and 2000 WS6. I told him last week when he buys his oil to buy it in the 6 pack and to have the mechanic use all 6, even though the manual says to use less. He forgot to tell the mechanic to use all 6 quarts, and to make matters worse he used 5w40 synthetic blend. Is it safe to leave the 5w40 in there or should I replace it with 5w30? We are located in Northeast Ohio, just outside Cleveland.

Thanks

He will have no problem with the oil, I use Mobil 0W40 synthetic with great oil pressure and it MIGHT use a 1/4 of a qt in 3K miles. I run the AC delco PF58 filter and 6qts. puts it dead on the full mark.

I use 0w-40, its actually better thicker oil. And tell him to switch from Castrol blend to Mobil 1 synthetic AMSoil or redline.

Why the PF-58? Isn't it supposed to use the PF-46?

PF 58 has the same specifics but will hold almost a 1/2 qt more oil.

I use Royal Purple 10w50 6qts every time with a mobile 1 truck (It's bigger) filter....I have always had 40psi @ idle and 60-70psi @ WOT. What your father did is just fine for this oil change....tell him not to worry.

Nope. 44 is the normal one, 58 is the longer one. 46 isn't even for the LS1 (don't know what it's for).

uhhhh...actually the original was the pf44 which is now superseded by the pf46. the pf59(not 58) was recommended for the 99 to 01 trucks. i use the pf 59 just because its longer. i work with this stuff everyday!!!!!

Above is correct the PF44 is now the PF46 and the PF59 is the long filter. I run this with 6 quarts all the time.

I use the K&N filter only. Superior filtration and flow over the stock filters. I run Mobil 1 10/30 or 20/50 depending on what type of racing I'm about ready to do, OT or ORR.

I don't think Castrol makes a 5w40 blend, they do make a 5w40 full synthetic, and it's very good, it's made in Belgium. I'd run that over their 5w30 for sure.

Ahh, I must be behind the times. I still use the 44. I bought a dozen UPF44s a while back and still haven't gone through them. I was pretty damn sure the 58 was the big one though, cuz I used it for a while.
