aluminum 5.3 vs iron 6.0. Want to trap 124mph..
Here a bit of info.
Car is a foxbody mustang. Weighs 2850 with iron 5.0 and 5 speed. Full drag suspension.
Im looking at swapping in either an Aluminum 5.3 (L33) or an iron 6.0 with a T56.
The engine will be carbed with a vic jr, longtubes and 3 inch exhaust.
The only mod I want to do to the engine is put in a cam (even leave the heads bolted on). I dont have to worry about emissions so the cam can be large.
Is it going to be possible? I know its a lofty goal but the car is quite light. Is the weight savings from the aluminum block worth the 0.7L less of displacement.
Enlighten me.
Thanks

No way. Go cast iron. You know you won't stop at cam. The Iron affords you more growing room. I love the L33's though. Have one myself bored out to 5.7. If you want to trap 124, You're going to need around 450 wheel horsepower.
The term "light" is relative. I've always felt <2500 is the beginning of light.

LY6 can be had for like 1500 around here (canada). For an LS2 I would have to fork out over 4k
There's a 60k LS2 going for 2500 shortblock and 3000 long block on ls1gto.com, that's not bad considering it's lighter and has more compression than a truck motor.
