Default Cheatr Cam and 243 Heads

I'm a little new to doing work on this part of the engine so bear with me.

I bought a set of 243 heads that I would like to swap out for the 241's that I have on there now. I would like to use this with TR's Cheatr cam. I have been told that I should have the heads milled to 61cc, does this sound right while still being on 91 octane? Also, I was told that I need at least Patriot Gold Extreme valvesprings, but for longer life I should consider buying the comp cams 26925. This car is a DD that I need to be reliable. Will I also likely need new pushrods? Anything else?

Also, is there anything else I should consider replacing while I'm in there? The car has 85k on it, so I've read that replacing the oil pump and timing chain is probably a good idea. What are peoples thought on this?

Thanks for any help, I greatly appreciate it!

Don't ever want to worry about springs.. duals

Auto? You will need a converter.

I will definitely be getting a converter since I will be replacing my currently dead 4l60e with one from performabuilt.

Is there a huge difference between the 26925 and 26926 dual springs from comp cams? The latter is quite a bit more expensive. Also, for the pushrods if I am having the heads milled like I am planning will the stock length pushrods work or will I need something different?

Also, if someone could answer my question about whether the size of the combustion chamber sounds right and if I'll be able to use 91 octane that would be awesome.

Thanks!

Got a link to the springs? On phone so its a PITA.

Get a push rod length checker... Only way to know 100% what size you need.

You should be fine milling and running 91.

I use PRC dual springs($289) with my 218/230 116 .605/.604 sleeper cam. That cam with negative overlap will actually work with the stock stall. The heads will be fine as that puts your compression about where mine is with 5.3 heads.

Lemons, here is a link to the package Texas Speed sells. Comes with seats, Ti retainers, and valve seals. Seems like a pretty good deal for $289.

Awesome! That's good to hear as that will save me quite a bit of money with from the Comp Cams set. I want to have good reliability with these springs, so hopefully that will do.

I would stick with the stock stall if I didn't need a new tranny. But since I'm yanking out the old one anyways I might as well put in a new stall, plus I hear it makes the car a lot more fun to drive.

Thanks guys!

Either one of those will work.. The duals with that cam should never have to be replaced.

No Link in post.

I would go with something other than that cheatr cam for all that work though. Especially if you have headers and those 243's. That cam was designed to work with stock manifolds. Since you are going to stall it anyways, I would look into a tr224 on a 114 lsa or something like that.

I wont have headers, trying to stay smog legal so the stock manifolds are staying on. That's why I want to go with the Cheatr.

makes sense. thats suppose to be the perfect cam for that. with the 243's you should see a noticeable difference in power and be real stealthy at the sametime. Keep us posted, I would like to know how it comes out.

EPS just did a CAL-emissions legal 222/230 cam for a 243 headed F-body....
I think it was 408MARO and he dynoed around 380 rwhp

Patrick G ran a Cheatr cam setup with the stock manifolds and made over 400 rwhp. Although he used AFR 205 heads and Fast 90/90 setup. I am on a smaller budget than that, hence going with the 243 heads, a BBK intake, and P&P TB. Hopefully I will see similar gains.
