So apparently I had a SLP oil pump installed when my cam install was done. I dont see SLP on it anywhere like in there add. Does anyones elses have this?

Also, it looks like someone just took a dremel tool to the inside for 5 seconds. Its a night and day difference from my TSP ported I just put it, thats a piece of art.

So I sent some photos to SLP, first glance he said it is not his pump. He is going to verify with engineers to see if it is definetely not his.

So if its not an SLP pump, then i paid for a SLP pump to be installed and it never got in there and my pump pressure relief valve in the pump stuck open and caused my bearing to go and my oil pressure to start dropping at high RPM. Hope this isnt the case

I dont know what the SLP looks like but that looks like a ported stock or LS6 pump.

Id almost be willing to bet its a ported stock pump off for a SS, and since SS's are SLP cars it MUST be an SLP pump right? lol I think you got hosed man, raise hell.

I have an SLP pump and it looks nothing like that and the quality of the porting work on the one you have is crap.
It looks like a stocker that has been butchered to me.

I can't possibly imagine how you can determine the quality of the porting without opening up the pump. The majority of the porting is done to the outlet area within the pump, like this:


Anything that you can see from outside the pump is likely of very little value.

I opened it and the porting is junk, Ill take pics and show you. You can see where it was just a dremel for 5 minutes

Mate I am blind in my left eye and I can still see; where the pick up bolts on there is a step that has been ground un even and most good jobs such as a SLP or a Manley/Melling don’t have the step there at all. Maybe you have worse eye sight than me.

Removing that step is worthless. The pickup tube extends above that step when it's installed. A slight radius of the step at the edges is all it needs.

The pick up tube doesn,t extend quite that far.
Gee whizz maybe SLP and Manley have been doing it all wrong, either that or their machining is a bit overkill.

Yup, and then he posted pics of the outside, and bunch of people provided their assessment based on those pics. That's who I was directing my earlier comment toward.

I would guess it's overkill. While you're in there, it doesn't hurt to clean up that area, I just don't think it's providing any benefit. The pickup tube is a fairly large diameter, and the cavity directly above the pickup tube that feeds the pump rotors has a fairly large volume. Add those up and in my opinion, there's not an issue with being able to supply adequate oil volume to the pump rotors. However, on the output side, now you've got a high pressure zone with a much smaller outlet that has a much less optimal flow path compared to the pickup area. This is where I think the most benefit from porting the pump is, in order to provide a more direct, unrestricted flow path into the block for the high pressure oil.

But hey, we all know what opinions are worth.

The biggest problem is getting the oil in the pump. Start fixing all the problems at the pan and go from there.

Thing looks like a steel vault with a crazy james bond mechanism to get past in order to get to the crank..good luck sir!

I figured out the pump, I paid for a LS6 pump, not SLP. I checked the part number and it came out with the LS6 pump. I just got my Max Jax lift so time to pull the motor.

That pump looks really dirty, isn't it only 2 years old? What the longest time frame and miles you went with changing the oil? I know with the flash can make internals look browner but that looks like there's sludge in the corners. Did the motor ever over heat? Do you have the pics form inside. The pickup tube looks opened up to were the pickup tube thickness buts up to it. Its not the full size like jim85 iroc says. Why did you changing it, I could guess the oil sludge started to stick the bypass?
