Default Connecting rod position

Long story short.. Im ready to put the rods and pistons in the motor.. Im really doubting that the machinist put them together right. He blabs about the offset of the rod and yadda yadda..

For i guess simple terms there is a "square side" and a "rounded side" to the rod.. Which side goes towards the other rod or towards the crank.

I have my opinion but i want someone else to either confirm or deny it.

Thanks

It depends.

Usually you want the chamferred side, or I guess the "rounded" side to face the cheek of the crank. This is mainly so that crankshafts with a radius on the journals won't bind on the bearing and give you a clearance area instead.

However, OEM LSx cranks have an undercut fillet, so it doesn't really matter as long as the pistons are oriented so that the dots face the front of the engine.

What crank, pistons, and rods are you using? Stock? Diamond? Scat? needs more details. pin is offset and needs to be in the correct orientation in the motor. (even that is debatable by circle track guys) At least all facing the same way.

Here is a decent explanation for the piston side of things. CLICK HERE

Flat sides of the rod caps face forward, dimples on the pistons face forward.

wow... i would of NEVER thought that.. which still brings me back to i dont think they are ALL on right.. Will have to check.. And i examined the crank. Why dont they use a radius? Pretty noticable how it is cut down. Great information!
