cam card question TEXAS SPEED PLEASE LOOK
when i installed my cam dot to dot and checked the intake c/l i was @ 106degrees. my question is should i be at 106 or should be at the 110 degree that the cam card shows the center line to be. its kind of confusing because it says 4degrees of advance on the next line down and 110-4 would be 106. JUST INSTALL IT DOT TO DOT IS NOT THE ANSWER I AM LOOKING FOR. want someone to explain the number for me so i can understand what im missing. so ok here is my cam card

It has 4 degrees of advance ground in from the factory, so it souls come up to 106 degrees.
If you have adjustable timing gears I'd throw it in at the 0 setting to get it to where it should be.....its not that un common for a cam to be a degree or two off, that's why you should always check them.
First, check to be sure that you do have the timing gears at 0 before you go adjusting it.

That cam card shows it as a 114 LSA. If the cam is really in @ 106 ICL then you have the cam in 8 degrees advanced.
If you had it installed @ 110 ICL it would be 4 degrees advanced.

It has a 114 LSA, so if the cam is installed "straight up" with no advance or retard, you would come up with a 114 ICL. Now, with 4 degrees advance ground in you should be getting 110 ICL like the cam card says. Since you are getting a 106 ICL, you have the cam in a total of 8 degrees advanced.

nah i understand the lsa. what i do not understand is that if i install it dot to dot the icl degrees out to 106. the cam card says that it should be 110 but also says that the cam has 4 degrees of advance ground in. so just wanna know if it should be at 110 that the card says or 106 that it degreed at. so if im thinking correctly 110-4=106. that is what confused me.

KCS explained it best. On where and how it should read. Hope it helps on showing where it needs to be. I see what your saying. Card says +4 and your getting -4. Right?
Edit. Sorry to add any confusion. But i would have thought your reading is ok. That it has +4° ground in. So a reading of 106 +4 will give you 110° overall. Dot to Dot.

Are you checking to make sure the cam has been ground correctly? I thought you always put the cam in dot to dot. Just making sure I understand for when I do mine. With the stock cam gears you are stuck as to where the cam attaches to the wheel because of the dowel so without an adjustable you are kinda stuck with either trusting it is ground right or figure out how much off the dots are correct?

If you degreed it properly, it is advanced 4º too far. It is ground as 110º ICL, and you're measuring 106º, that's not right. Retard the cam to where you want it.
