Due to the limitation on boring your bout at your max due to limitation on crank stroke. That's why most go to a LS2 due to getting a 4" bore. Also head options open up. Check with builders and you may get some more but at best you get a 0.010" over bore on newer ls1 blocks.

Reason why I ask is because some people arent even breaking 500rwhp with a 383, yet some guys are getting 480 out of stock shortblock engine.
If you take a set of TEA/TFS 215's, a 236/242 615/615 on a 111, fast 90/90 people are reporting 470-490rwhp. How would that setup perform with a few more cubes?
