Default Swap cam without pulling damper?

Looks like you can do it. Anyone try it? I'm going to attempt and let you know.

I suppose you could, but not without pulling the pan, otherwise I dont see how your going to turn the front cover to get to the cam gear?

Probly one of those things you think its going to work and not take to long. But probly wont work that way and you will save time by pulling the pulley and gain a bunch of room to do your work properly.

as requested...dont need to remove crank pulley, well only the first time you do the whole install..future cam installs will be a cake walk though.

Lol...Yeah I pulled the pan off to swap it out, and it does look like you could rotate the front cover over. I agree, with the pan on while in the car, that pulley needs to come off. I will try it out...who knows.

It takes about 5 minutes to pull the damper. No excuse not to. Honestly, if this is your logic (to cut every corner) when modding, you should just leave your junk stock. Will save you a lot of time and aggravation in the end.

As 01ssreda4 said takes about 5 mins to get balancer of plus easier to get to the bolts underneath the balancer then too, i took mine of in about 5 mins, mine was on an engine stand but easier, looked at split covers, any one used them and can you get ones that clear an oil pump and double chain? seen the comp cam ones too clear double rollers and pumps but i don't have the sensor on the front cover.

5 Minutes?? Easy said when you have a shelf full of tools. I don't have a pulley remover or install tool.

And I wouldn't bother with one of those Edelbrock 2 piece covers either, unless you're someone who plans on swapping cams out every other month.

Agreed, It doesn't justify the extra $$ that could be put towards other mods, unless, like you said, you'll be doing alot of swaps (or the "bling factor")

A generic 3 jaw puller works fine. They are $10.

At Oriley auto parts its the chrysler 3 jaw puller and it hooks onto the three flat tabs on the inside of the balancer. Verry basic looking puller, cant go wrong...
