Probably because TSP heads are half the cost

You pay AI in the hood of $1200 for just porting + Heads.

TSP give you porting, springs, larger valves for $1600 and that includes heads!

idk how old your heads are, but my PRC heads came like this:

TSP does some great work. their older heads may have not been the best, but they have improved so much over the last year and a half. they are a great set of heads for the price they sell them for.

Nice pics man. Care to give a prediction after retune ???? previous runs were
in the .70-.90 range ???? That thing should start at 50s...perhaps high 30s
with chilly air. GL2ya

I have the new 799s and TSP mentioned the slight roughness in the chambers actually makes them flow better and keep compression up.

What does your cam pull to? On the site is says only up to 6200? Does it pull farther than that?

I always thought the chamber was supposed to be as polished as you can get it.

I don't ring it out much on the shifts. I shifted at one point at 6200 and I think that was about peak. I started shifting at 6500 and that felt much better. Power had stopped building but was still there. I honestly think there wouldn't be a whole lot to gain going over 6500. The cam has some advance ground in so its got excellent midrange power.

Texas Speed should NEVER mention anything close to roughness makes them flow better. If you were told that, I apologize! We do not cut the chambers because we want to keep the compression up on these heads (extra milling to break even on compression also kills clearance).

WOW! That's what I was told because I was wondering why on my older (2006) TSP LS6 243 heads, the chambers were smooth, but my new 799 heads they were rough and the rep mentioned them flowing better and keep compression up.

So is it better to have them smooth or rough??

We do have a program that will cut the chambers, but again don't do it because we want the compression. The performance increase on the 243/799 castings from doing chamber work is fairly small....on the 5.3L heads though, they're chambers are bad enough and shrouded with 2.02"/1.57" valves that we really have to cut them.

Darn! had I known this tid bit of info, I would have opted for the chamber work.

What's a small increase, 10hp??

We'll cut it if the head needs it, but it is not an "offering" that we put out there because they don't need it typically.

Nowhere near 10hp.

Even a 5 hp increase by paying attention to details is substantial. That is about 12% increase (from the 40 rwhp a head swap would make).
Chambers do not really need to be completely gutted but some attention to plug boss and de-burring any potential hot spot candidates can go a long way.
