Default Cams with stock exhaust mani.

Hey guys i need help choosing/recommending a cam that will pass Ca smog but make power through the stock exhaust manifolds. Ive read plenty of threads on what will work and wht ive come up with is
1.cheaTR series
2.tr224(passes smog but not recommended w/stock mani)
3.i forget the specs but i think its an eps 218/230(not sure if it smoggable though)
Keep in mind ill be using ported 241s. I want to use a cam that would be considered an upgrade from the later yr ls6 cam.

I hope someone else will chime in, but if I remember right for CA you need -4 degrees of overlap or more to pass the sniffer test, so since you would be stuck with your stock mannies you will probably want about 10 degrees more exhaust duration compared to your intake duration, with that in mine you can go with the largest can that will fit that profile....I think one if not more of the hot cams fit that spec....have to run it on a calculator, but something like a 220/230 .600/.600 114-116 lsa would probably get you there.

But also check the new updated emission laws for CA, because I know they were changing to actually be easier to pass with bigger mods. There is a thread in here somewhere in the past month about it.

Remember its a pita, but you could get your manifolds ported too to help out a little

How much cam lift are you willing to go with, .615" okay?

EPS TT2 is good, 218/226 113lsa, it has -4* overlap.

So would a tuned Comp Cam 224/224 .581 112LSA XE-R Lobes be able to pass the sniffer? Is it the LSA that would make it difficult to pass?

No, it's the amount of ext/int. valve overlap that determines that.
That 224/224 112lsa probably wouldn't because it has 0* overlap, now a 220/220 112lsa would because of the -4* overlap.

Now that doesn't mean yours won't pass 0* overlap, it just means that possibility of it passing is less likely.
Know you could go with a TSP 224/228 cam, can get it with a 115lsa since it has -4* overlap.

If you look at the new ls9 it has like a 120-122lsa....so you could go with a wider lsa and more duration....but I'm not sure when you stop seeing gains and start hurting performance.

Thanks for the link darkman the first one is where i heard about the eps cam.
Christiandoy the heads will be ported diy style and i havent started yet but theres plenty of threads on the subject with results. Im hoping mine will see similar results as it looks fairly straight forward.

Ravens, I did my 241s. I have some pics I can try to dig up of a head slice I used as a guide if you want, just pm me....there is a small dip under the exhaust valve spring seat you have to watch in the port because it can get thin and pop into the coolant port that runs under that spring seat....when you look in the exhaust port you will see what I am talking about
