Default Which Cam, There's so many

I have a 02 SS with full exhaust, 3.73 gear, underdrive pulley, ported TB, air lid and mod, 6-speed, LS1 edit, stock heads, LC arms, SF conn, and Sophn Torque arm. I dont think i will do much with the heads, i think i will keep them stock. Maybe in a heads and even a supercharger in af ew years, but i want to do a new cam first and i want it to work well with want i have now and what i will get later. I see all these different size cams from 224 int.-230 exh. to 231 int.-237 exh. I dont know what to go with. What LSA to go with? I was thinking a 114. How is MTI's X1 cam? I want something that is streetable like in traffic or to the store, but does well racing on the street. I will only want to turn about 6500 rpm at the most. i dont think i need to turn anymore rpm's, but i want my low end torque too like the stock cam so i wont have to turn alot of rpm's all the time to stay in the power band. Any help is great, since i have only started to talk to people about cams recently.

IMO - that my be a little loby depending on how agressive you'll want it to sound. I went with a .581 lift and its rigth on the edge of lobyness for me. You can tell there's a cam in it but its not tooo exagerated. But I like it that way, if I think something seems like too much right off the bat, its usually good. I just finished my install last weekend BTW....

It all depends on what you're looking for...

If you want a raspy sound to impress the drive-in crowd, check out some sound clips and pick one of those profiles.

If you are looking for high peak dyno figures to put big numbers in your forum signature, get something really huge! You'll sacrifice average power and performance but it wil impress the troops.

If you are looking to have more usable, average horsepower and torque, then get one designed and ground up for "your" particular combination.

Another thing, if you are planning a supercharger in the future, the best naturally aspirated profile you come up with won't be best for forced induction...

The daily driven cams that are available today are light years ahead of what was considered big less than 2 years ago, I have a FMS F11-228/230-575-597-112 +4, after tuning by Allan Futral yesterday this cam rocks, put down good #'s and drives like a stocker(although it does lope like a bitch ). I hope to build a new engine by this time next year, by FMS of course, and the explosion in LS1 tech. will probably still be growing by leaps & bounds

If you want it to sound sick, just pull some timing at idle. It'll shake the motor to pieces, but I've seen a lot of shops send out cars that way just because someone wanted a silly aount of lope.
