LQ4 6.0L Aftermarket cam
Ok, ive searched and searched and cant find this. I must not typing the right thing to get the results.
Here's my question. When swapping out the 5.7L from a 4th Gen and installing a 6.0 LQ4, the reluctor needs to be changed but what about the cam. Since the 6.0 cam sensor is in the front, what needs to remain when installing an aftermarket cam. The stock cam is a single bolt but looks to have something else installed on top of it. Can you install a 3 bolt cam and the cam sensor still function?

This link may help you. I'm pretty sure you can take a GEN III cam and use it in a GENIV motor. But you can't use the GENIV cam in a GEN III motor due the the GENIV cam not having the cam sensing ring at the back of the cam. I've been researching this problem myself. I bought a single bolt GENIV cam for a 09 5.3, but then bought a GENIII 6.0. Since the cam I have is missing the rear sensing ring, I can't use it. Also, I have yet to find a 1x single bolt cam gear sprocket.

Are you talking about swapping engine or the cams? I think you mean the whole engine? what year lq4 do you have? It should be a direct swap with an 01-06 lq4.
It sounds like you bought a gen IV 6.0 which is not an lq4, but an ly6. If thats the case my advice is sell it and buy a gen III 6.0

I wasnt gonna even attempt to change the wheel. LOL I would take it to a local speed shop that deals with that and let them change it. I will snap a pic of cam this evening and post it.

You were lied to, mid 07 up when the trucks changed generation the 6.0 became the ly6(different rpo code). They were all 58x and are more trouble then they are worth to swap. Probably has VVT or AFM also a PIA, sell and get a Gen III. 01-06 is what you want, you can slap those years right in with no mods or changes. Only thing is 1 bolt hole missing for alt to drill for but 2 bolts will hold the Alt just fine.

Well it is VVT or DOD as some might call it. But im going to do a delete kit and continue with the build.
Here are some pics of the VVT on the cam. This is not my engine but exactly what it looks like.

VVT uses the hardware you see above to adjust can phasing, and thus, valve timing, also based on conditions.
Not trying to be a jerk, but we don't want to confuse anyone, either.

dont mean to hijack but what makes the ly6 inferior to the lq4 besides the vvt?
what ly# is the current 6.2 liter?
an opportunity to pick up a 6.0 popped up today and this happened to be the first thread when i logged on
