Default Comp Cams: "Don't use Comp-R's" with LS1

I have Comp-R lifters, and I called Comp and they emphatically stated the "you CAN NOT use Comp R lifters without adjustable rocker arms!

I researched and found everthing from 1/8-1/2 turn.. and also read about .002"-.004"... and yet simply torque to 22ft lbs.

Has anyone used these (with dual springs) without problems.. and if so, what preload?

PM Nasty N8, a sponsor on this site, he has set up many with both YT and HS non-adjustable rocker arms with good success, and he'll be setting mine up in a week or two.

Good luck, Shawn

You can use them with non adjustable rockers, but they have to be shimmed to the proper pre-load, which is .002 to .004.

And that sir is almost next to impossible.

After talking to Louis @ LG for a while, he said a common practice there is to slap in some 7.35" pushrods with the comp R lifters, no shimming, and call it a day.

I have them with 7.35 PR and a .030 SVO shim. All with HS rockers. Less than 1/4 turn of preload all the way around. It was a little work but seems to be working OK.

i have the comp r's and comp mag rockers and i am having valve float issues. we dynoed tonight and it was making good power all the way to 6200, then it fell off.

made 374 thru a th400/4000 stall/9 inch/28 inch hoosiers

might make 390-400 if we can get it to pull to 6800-7000

I don't get it - valve float with Comp R and adjustables! What springs are you using?

Things have specs for a reason. Try cranking your rod bolts to 200 lbs so they are just good and tight.

I have them, but I also have adjustable rocker arms too. Preload is 1/16th of a turn past 0 lash.

i am really looking into a set of these but i just dont know it a sould
with all these problems i dont know it they are worth it
i plan to be reving tho motor out to 6800-7000 so they would be a good idea to have
im just not comrotable with all this preload crap

i here some peoplejust put a .020 shim under the rockers and tighten to 22 ftlbs
and some use shorter pushrods

its just to confusing

Running Comp Rs on a 427 with yella terras they can be setup with shimming and stock length pushrods. However would recommend adjustables hell of a lot easier to set up.

weird, i am running the comp R's with a 236 242 cam and no issues gained 3 mph over my 224 cam. went from 118 to 121. valve train is quite as hell. maybe i am just lucky.

I'm having this problem too, but I'm not so sure it's a valve float problem. I'm hearing rumors that maybe the 'r' lifter isn't working so well with cams that have a real agressive ramp.

I've backed my preload all the way to zero but I'm still having the problem around 5500rpm. I'm also running the crane duals and comp pro mags. I had these same springs in the car before the cam swap and had no rev issues at all, and that cam was more lift than my new one.
