Default 228r questions

I have seen alot of threads on this cam and have been looking at it for a year or so now and after being talked out of doing a hot cam I think I will probably go with it, but I have some questions.

Mods to my car now-FTRA, SLP lid, ls6 intake, LT headers/ory, 3" cutout, 3400 circle d stall, 100 shot, and tune

1. What 1/4 mile gains should I see with 228r?
2. Should I shift at 6400-6500 rpm?
3. I notice this cam has a pretty hard chop at idle, but if I raised the idle rpm to like 1100 rpm when I go out to race would people be able to notice it had a cam?

If you race and this is not a DD, get a bigger cam.

bought this cam years ago and unfortunately never put it in

reason i bought it was bc of the HP gains and the nice choppy idle... even raising idle you should be able to tell that it has a cam... hard to say on 1/4 mile times and dont have an answer for shifting... best thing to do is look at dyno numbers and take it to the track to test it out... every car is different and you are spraying... probably doesnt give you much help, i just had to post bc i love this cam.

dont remember the exact specs on it but it is pretty close to a post a couple down with the dyno vid. car made 400hp! awesome numbers for a cam only

That's good, but that cam is wayy to big for my setup.... I have a 3400 stall and stock 4l60e. I won't be shifting the car over 6500rpm so any cam bigger than 228r is going to big stupid and pointless. Please anybody who knows the answers to any of the 3 questions I asked above please chime in.

Thanks for info actually regarding the 228r cam lol. Hopefully if I raise my idle enuf it will be hard to tell it has a cam in it. I would like to gain .5 tenths and 4-5 mph with it and a slp u/d pulley install.

Very DD friendly cam and makes great under the curve power. Have a friend with a 4k converter and this cam and full exhaust and made an 11.90 pass. It makes power and its proven period.

I already run 12.3's so I would like to be in the 11.8 area with the same 60ft.

Since you are spraying, I would look at something with a bit of exhaust. Like a 228/232 111 LSA

Honestly might be taking the spray off soon. It's been a pita the whole way. It has lost me to many races by not working correctly I'm getting to the point that I'm sick of it.

The same cam PredZ just mentioned is also a badass DD cam. Hundreds of people use it with good results. Not a n20 cam necessarily, but a perfect n/a cam.

Hey there I think even if my cars rpm was raised to 1100 you should be able to tell it has a cam. ( although I have it on 110lsa not 112) if I am racing I shift about 6500 and I do not know about 1/4 times since I have been to the track since the cam.

I have this cam and I DD mine. It made peak torque at 4300rpm, and made peak horsepower at 6,200rpm. The cool thing is tho, it only dropped 5rwhp from 6200 to 6800. Also, the horsepower crossed the torque curve at 4500rpm. It does really good on the street.

Btw, mine idles at 780-800 rpm and chops very hard. It use to idle at 1050 and still chopped pretty hard.

Anyone who knows what an ls sounds like can tell it has a cam even if you raise the idle to 1000rpm on a cam 114/112lsa.I like my 228r for dd and race here n there.

I shift also at 6200rpm,never ran my setup at the track yet.If you dont want people to notice your cammed..look more into stealth cams. You can get good power out of them without having a noticeable choppy idle.Your exhaust will play heavily on this aswell I think

No it didn't, that would be mathematically impossible.
HP =rpm x torque
...........5252
HP and TQ will ALWAYS cross at 5252rpm. Knowing this is actually a good way to spot a fake dyno graft.

I will have to look at my dyno graph again. I didn't get a print out of it so I will have my tuner send it to me.

Your horsepower and torque lines may not have been scaled the same on the graph and that will throw off where the two lines cross.
