Default Recommended Oils

I got an 02 TransAm now about 2 months ago that I BOUGHT with 11K down and a 14K loan with only 15K miles on it and im only 17. Very psyched and i got HUGE plans for it.

I am comming in on my oil change soon and LS1Speed.com is my primary distributor for parts (yes i know they HEAVILY overprice stuff) should I go with the ROYAL PURPLE 5W30 10W30 or what else do you guys recommend? The motor is stock but i want what would perform best for this engine. I used to be into the 4 cyl world and the world of modding between a 4 banger and 8 are largely different.
My point is what are some oils you guys run in you Birds/camaro's/Vettes

Redline 5w30 is a real good oil to use. I hear that Castrol has a GERMAN made 0w30 that is good too!

MOBIL 1 is good (5w-30 , 10W-30) Look into AMSOIL .... alot of the guys here and on the Corvette forums really like it. Try a search for AMSOIL when you get a chance.

For a stock to mildly modded car, I recommend (in no particular order) Amsoil 5w30 or 0w30, Redline 5w30, German Castrol 0w30, Mobil 1 0w40 or Royal Purple Racing 41. There are lots of other good oils too though. To truly see how they perform in your own car, the best thing to do is get an oil analysis done. This also shows you how far you can go on your oil changes (I now go 10,000km instead of 5,000km, and I know I could go further)

You are seriously asking for some problems I f you go 10,000 miles on an oil change...
I change mine every 2000-3000 miles
I also use Royal Purple 5w30 and I use the K&N oil Filters

He said 10,000 kilometers, not miles. 10,000 km is equal to about 6200 mi. Also, 10,000 mi. may be pushing it, but you can easily go 6000 - 7500 mi. with modern synthetics. Do an oil analysis, you'll see.

Patman:
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't beleive you are now recommeding Royal Purple oil after you ran this copmany's products down for years. Did they give you another case of free oil in exchange for the web recommendation?

I use Moble 1 becasue I can buy it just about anywhere. They sell a five quart jug at WalMart for just over twenty bucks....

I also routinely go with Fram filters which are HATED by Patman #1.

Robert, you are a ******* nitwit, **** off.

As far as 10,000km oil changes, they are perfectly safe, I get an oil analysis done at the end of each of my intervals, and it shows I could in fact go longer if I wanted to. But 10,000km (which is 6200 miles) is a nice round number.

I use Mobil 1 0w40 currently since it is very plentiful here at the local Wal-Mart... I also use a K&N oil filter (#2006) when I can get it, otherwise I just stick with the Wal-Mart Supertech filter. I use a 6 month or 5000 mile interval for my oil changes. I always hit 6 months before I hit 5000 miles though... but I figure changing the oil at least twice a year is a good thing to do.

I bought my car with 92,000 miles on it. When I bought it, I wanted a Synthetic 10W-40 oil, but the only one I could find locally was Syntec. I put this in my car as soon as I bought it. I ordered Amsoil 10W-40 and changed my oil to the Amsoil after 3,000 miles. I plan on changing it every 5,000 miles from now on, and I like the Mobli1 oil filter!

Go to Walmart and buy some Mobil 1 5w30. It's readily available and will do a perfect job. Change it every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

Use a high quality oil filter, the OEM AC Delco will work great.

Patman:
The rules of this Board state that fowl launguage is strictly forbidden and may result in revocation of your privleges.

If you disagree with my comments you are free to post your views. Hey, this is supposed to be a free discussion to advance everyones' knowledge of the hobby...Calling people names does not advance this cause.

Anyway; while I have your attention, please indicate why you have changed your view on Royal Purple engine oil?

Also, in your many past posts you stated that Fram filters are substandard; I think you used the term "junk" more than once. Now you say Frams are OK for intervals of 10K miles or less. How did you come to change your views on this product too?

If your opinion is be based on scientific data from oil analysis done by people with 20+ years of experience, what made you change your mind on both Royal Purple and Fram? Is it based on good test results from Blackstone?

Thanks...
