Default $1022.40 for lifters?

I purchased some AI 243 heads off another member this past weekend, and I was shopping around for the supporting parts (injectors, pushrods, headbolts, lifters). So today, I called up my local dealership for some lifters. Gave him my VIN, and after some time, he gives me a price for $63.90 each. I reply, are you sure? I need 16 of these. He says yep, the total will be $1022.40 and I can have them by tomorrow. At this point I said thanks and hung up the phone.

I couldn't believe it. Since when did dealerships start charging so much for a set of lifters? I'm pretty sure I can get the same set of lifters for around $140 from Texas Speed or Summit or any other the other numerous sponsors. Not exactly sure how they justify these prices. Is this just a local dealer trying to rip people off or is this more widespread? I'm going to call an out of town dealer tomorrow and see what kind of prices I get.

They charge WAY more for one lifter than a whole set. Perhaps he was looking them up individually.

LS7 lifter each = 17122490 (list price of ~$52)
LS7 lifter set of 16 = 12499225 (list price ~$138)

Generally, a dealer will charge you list price. I've NEVER paid anything other than list price at a dealer. I know some people have special connections at their dealer to get much lower prices. I would only go to a dealer for something I need ASAP, and even then it could take several days to arrive.

Hmmm never had that problem at my dealer. I paid $115 for brand new ls7 lifters a few months ago. He told me they were like $8 a piece or something

my local dealer wants almost $900 for a set of 4.8 lifters (which are the same as ls7 lifters now); dealerships are always the LAST place to go to buy parts if you can help it.

As said individual PN pricing is going to come out a lot higher than set pricing, plus dealer markup is pretty routinely 100% where companies who deal on the internet usually have MUCH lower markup prices.

That is called Matrix+ pricing. A lot of dealers do it to the retail counter. The cheaper the part, the bigger the markup. They don't do this at the wholesale counter. Anyone who pays it just doesn't know any better. The parts managers laugh about it in the managers meetings.

I just always ask for wholesale price which is most likely less than the online prices and if the new guy tries to charge me individual Ill give him the set price from online and they'll match it if it's gm parts. My friends think I work there to get wholesale price lol, just don't settle for list price. No one would be able to afford 65 dollars a lifter lol

Last town I lived in the local dealer refused to give me decent pricing so I bought little from him probably under $100 in almost 10 years. I knew a guy at a dealer 40minutes away who would give me wholesale and I had other reasons to go toward that dealer regularly so I have bought thousands of dollars from them over the years. He made 10% on probably $3000+.

I was quoted around $170 for a set here locally. I bought from Summit whose price was around 130-140 IIRC.

Hey facex, normally I'd welcome a new guy with just two posts but you've been here almost three years.

Where ya been man??

It'd be a great idea to include some info about what ya got like engine, year, mods, etc.

Yes, you can certainly get better pricing than that dealership quoted you. I would suggest you shop around from LS1tech sponsors. They help keep this place alive.

You can find sponsors at the links on the right side of this page OR the sponsor link just below the website logo at the top of every page.
