Show me a photo of an "egg shaped cylinder" lol. If a bore is distorted so much that you can seel it, I doubt the motor would make 1/2 its rated power.

Scraped cylinder walls are more likely the result of someone driving the car hard while it is cold.

And I for one am thankful that GM built and sold a high hp car, and sold it to me cheaply. You have to wonder if racing and mod related warranty claims didn't help with the decision to stop building these cars.
I read low sales figures was most of it? But dang...they weren't cheap new. Of course Mustangs sell more, they sell for around $20,000 new don't they? Of course we do always spank the $20k mustangs....

Egg-shaped aka not round.

But I've heard that's fairly normal for the ls1.
Low oil light or change oil light? If it's a low oil light that is NOT normal. I've never seen that light on mine, except when I first turn the key on.

I don't think a Mustang GT has been $20K for a long time. They were $17K in the late '80's.

Your definition of cheap may vary, but I doubt anyone can argue that there was not a single car for the money that offered comperable performance.

I understand what egg shaped means, but if you can see a few thousandths out of round, then you have really good eyes. Most people can't see .030" (thats about what size ridge your fingernail will hang on).

I know, I was a machinist years ago. It ain't much.

The Service Bulletin List for 2001's are here: http://www.alldata.com/TSB/48/014802IS.html

I'm still looking for more details. The GM Service Manager had more details on his pc as I think he probably should. I'm still seeing if more is online.

Here's another website that shows a detailed list, but however the oil consumption has no detail documents even though it's on the list.

Obviously from the posts here and on other boards, not everyone is affected by this minor problem. Which leads me to my point:

Read the "King of Torts" by John Grisham, and you will learn a little about Tort law. In summary, if you thought ambulance chasers were greedy, Tort lawyers are the All Mighty Kings of Greed!

You will not get squat from any settlement. Well, maybe a check for $10.00

I didn't ask for money. I asked to get the car fixed, and I am.

As for the NHTSA site, it seems 99% of those bulletins have no detail documents. It's a conspiracy....

About the class action suit?

And we should have been attorneys, ya' can't lose. If you win the case, you get paid. If you lose the case, you get paid. How I wish...

I was using 3 qts between oil changes.(3000 miles) GM said that's normal. And Donkeys fly. So I took a part of an old beather element a put it in the pcv line right before the valve. I then took the updated truck pcv valve and installed it. Now I use a 1/2 qt. The knocking is still there.

You have to pay to get the TSB details at ALLDATA. I did, but I didn't see anything related to oil consumption. The only engine related TSB is the one regarding oil pump o-ring.

Try searching for:

01-06-01-023A JUN 02 Engine - Higher Than Normal Oil Consumption

It was item #26 on the summary.

They are suppose to install some kind of baffle somewhere under the intake on mine while it's torn down and check for the O-ring TSB. He wasn't even aware of the O-ring one and I brought it up, so he looked it up.

Apparently when they went back and checked the cylinder bore, the TSB says to check from top to bottom and they said one of my cylinders was way out of spec, so they ordered a BRAND NEW LS1 engine with a 3 year/50,000 mile warranty!!! Party time!!!!!!!!

For people who think piston slap doesn't cause a problem.....wrong!!!!

Alllllllrighty then!!!!!!!!!!!
