what oil pump and timing chain should i run?
need to get the final touches on my 383 im putting together.
what oil pump for a daily driven car?
what timing set is prefered? i would like to stay away from the double rollers as i dont want to grind and shim my pump away from the block.

I'd run the SLP Oil Pump (modified Melling) and a JP Performance Billet Single or Double Row Timing Set (double will fit without mods with the SLP pump). I prefer the billet gears with torrington bearing and adjustability vs stock gears. The chain, as long as it of LS2 quality, is enough.
You could also do a ported LS6 and just run the Billet Single JP chain. TSP, Katech, SDPC all sell good LS6 oil pumps. The TSP and SDPC are shimmed for higher pressure.
And I would recommend the JP set over the LS2 chain. The LS2 chain with new GM gears (highly recommended) costs more than even the JP double roller...

on high performance applications I'm not a big fan of the LS2 chain last one i did it had some slop nothing bad but i didnt like it my own personal motor i ran a Manley double roller with the Torrington bearing so it dosent chew up the cam plate.
as far as a oil pump a stock one will be just fine the high volume ones tend to wanta suck the pan dry at high rpm plus most dont fit behind the stock timing cover without doing some cutting.

Yeah. The SLP pump is supposed to be pretty nice. And the SLP timing chain is nothing more than the JP Performance double with SLP's ridiculous markup. You could do a new LS6 pump or Melling M295 OE replacement if you wanted to save some cash.
WS6store has the JP Double and SLP Pump for like 256 shipped.

BTW OP, WS6store is selling the aforementioned timing sets for $89.95.

Yeah, here are the links:
This one is for the LS2 one
http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...r-set-double-/
This one is for the LS1/LS6 one
http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...r-set-double-/
Both are the same price, but not sure which one you'll need. I'm sure someone will enlighten us, because I need to order one ASAP for my heads/cam swap too.

52 pages worth of sales... Mine included. LS2 HD chain with billet gears. The crank gear is a 2 piece so it's adjustable. Came with a torrington bearing as well, which was a plus.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/parts-cla...new-gm-52.html
Personally I'm running a ported LS6 from TSP and couldn't be happier.

Yank is out of stock.
And either the LS1 or LS2 will work. The LS2 chain is for a 24X reluctor and 1X gear. It just has the provision for the camshaft sensor which the LS2 requires. The LS1 chain doesn't. If you ever plan to run an LS2 block in the future, the LS2 chain will be okay. If not, just get the one designed for our cars.

wondering about the fitment of the jp performance ls2 gear set(double) and a ls6 oil pump myself, would there need to be any grinding or any other special things done for them to work?
