Default Whats my options? Collapsed lifter/valvespring 116,000 miles

found a ls1 engine it runs has top end knocking 116,000 miles
was diagnoised as Collapsed lifter / valvespring
engine has good compression

was going to upgrade cam/springs/lifters

should i deglaze and re-ring pistons ? which i can take to machine shop or do myself

was also thinking and considering of replacing wear items like crank/camshaft bearings and take block to machine shop ..etc

but that will run up price pretty quick about 3000 to rebuild long block at a shop

about 500 to do machine work and i rebuild myself

im on a budget

not doing anything crazy and not trying to put out 500 plus rwhp
trying to swap into thirdgen

Thank You Zach

any consederations or opinions and personal experance welcome

116 k is still pretty young for an ls if it hasnt been thrashed. Id do springs and seals maybe a trunion upgrade and new lifters and call it good if i were trying to save money. maybe a cam swap if you can or want to for more power

If your bottom end is healthy, 116k isn't anything for a LS. I did my heads/cam swap with 120k. For a moderate setup:

Cam
Dual .650 springs
Ls7 lifters
Lifter tray
Ls2 chain
Trunion kit

This should put you around a grand in parts and you would have a healthy and supportive valve train.

so i shouldnt bother re ringing the pistons then ?

i guess im just being OVER Cautious i guess

and the engine is out already so dont want to do double work

Was it consuming any oil? If the compression test was fine, I would leave it alone. As long as you're not spinning to 7k all the time, these bottom ends can last forever. The most typical failure for these engines are the rod bolts/bearings..but mostly due to revving past 6500 all the time.

lol...considering the LS1 was in performance cars...can you really say that? I would say all LS engines have been beat on.

I feel depending on the use of the engine will dictate what should be done to it. I wouldn't just say xxx miles is still young.

no not comsuming oil...

i just thought of re ring due to the fact heads are off and would be easy thing to do and not too expensive upgrade to arp bolts and and replace rod bearings or reuse if in good condition ..

its going into a daily driver wont see 7000 often i occasionally drag at track

thats why i ask and being cautious

you have a valid point it is easy to assume that all ls1 cars are beat on but there are few out there that are not.. some people dont know what they have and just drive for the look lol

these is probably a dumb question but was just wondering

was looking at another ls engine ...can you reuse main bearing and rod bearings assuming you put in the same spot if there healthy

do you have to reclearance them and check enplay etc ?

or you can just pop them back in to get a good inspection or you have
