Shaner S3 throttle body
Okay guys, I don't have a lot of money at the moment, so i'm looking for little bang for the buck type things right now. With mods in my sig, I was looking at the Shaner S3 throttle body port and polish with bump stop mod for $125. Bottom line what do you guys think...with my current mods do you think this is worhtwhile for the money? I taked to Mark Shaner today for like an hour today and he seems like a super nice and stand up kind of guy. I've also serched the forums here to see the general concensus, and it it seems a bit mixed in general. So lets here it guys...give me your honest thoughts and opinions on this if you will please
Thanks
Thanks

In my opinion it's a toss up really. It probably won't gain you a lot of power, maybe 5-8hp but I've heard that throttle response is better. Not sure if you'd feel a difference since you're already h/c but you may. There are some $75 options out there that may be a little more appealing, I'm not really sure what the different "levels" of porting entail on a tb. I was either just going to have a friend do it or maybe get it ported from CSP or New Era.

Thanks guys! Well 5-8 hp would be fine as long as there was an increase in throttle response as well.
Smg267, were you able to detect any difference in throttle response or anything at all for that matter? Any fluctuations in the idle or anything?
LS-ONE_DAY, are CSP and New Era the $75 options that you were referring to? If not, who does this for that price?

New Era does a great job, no doubt, but IMHO there is no better than an S3 for a manual car. Period.
Yes, you feel a difference in throttle response. It's a worthwhile mod in my opinion, and when you go to sell it to step up to something bigger, the S2's and 3's tend to hold their value better.

Well New Era was the place I did try calling, and couldn't get through. Didn't try CSP though. After a lot of research it seemed to me that Shaner's reputation was pretty solid, so I just went with it. Have you tried this mod yet?

Haven't checked on here in a couple days. I definitely felt a difference in throttle response after installing the S3. I upgraded the throttle body after doing full exhaust. Seeing how you are already H/C I am sure it will perform better. If your not hearing from Mark in the time he told you give him a call. I know he was swamped and took a couple extra days. Post a picture when you get it in!
What did you put down with the H/C combo? I am running the same heads with an older 228/230 cam, Fast 90/90, UDP, and was ~ 430 / 400

As far as numbers go I put down 460 rwhp on one dynojet, and 405 rwhp on another dynojet...damn dynos lol. Regardless of the numbers the car runs strong for what it is...enough to stay within one car length of a ported/pullied 03 Cobra. I honestly didn't ever think it would be that close lol. How do you like that Fast intake? Did you have a LS6 before that?

I had the LS6 before and sold the S3 throttle body and LS6 for $350 on the boards and picked up a used Fast 90/90 that cost me my old engine. If you ever buy one used down the road, make sure to take it apart! The last guy neglected to tell me he grenaded his engine and after a couple heat cycles all the aluminum broke free again and went into my engine. That was a very expensive lesson to learn! Good luck with your build!
