Get Castrol Syntec German version if you want a Castrol version. Autozone has it for like $4.99. I buy it out everytime my local AZ has it. I use it on my other cars. And used to run it on the LS1. VR1 all the way now, since Amsoil Z-Rod is twice as expensive.

I have hi-flo cats....is the VR1 oil not recommended for this? I thought I was running a good oil in the castrol synthetic but all this cam wear talk has made me think twice.

Would you rather replace your cats on your top end? High levels of zinc are supposedly a detriment to cats. That's why new oils don't have as much.

I just did some reading on that oil affecting the cats and it seems like the process would be a very, very long one to take out a cat. The Zn/P level is in the range of what was typical in the 90's. I'm going to give this a try and see how I like it.

Is this the street legal version...
Valvoline VV205 VR1 Racing Formula SAE 10W-30 Turbo Approved Motor Oil - 1 Quart (Case of 12) : Amazon.com : Automotive Valvoline VV205 VR1 Racing Formula SAE 10W-30 Turbo Approved Motor Oil - 1 Quart (Case of 12) : Amazon.com : Automotive

I read there is another one that is not street legal.

edit: the "not street legal" stuff is in a black container and is clearly labeled.

My old TA used a qt of oil EVERY 1000 miles for 135 THOUSAND miles back before they reduced the zinc.........never had any cat troubles so I say its all bs. They don't want engines lasting as long, best way to do that is kill off the older vehicles that need more zinc.

Wait, what? Unless I'm retarded, quite a few oils ranked above VR1, with Pennzoil Ultra being number one at 115,000 psi

You sure it's not Valvoline Edge? Or maybe Pennzoil 1?
