Default Installing cam in a 155k mile longblock

Engine is strong, no smoke, runs great. With that said its still got 155k so what all should I replace in addition to gaskets, valve seals, and timing chain? I'm running an EPS 230/230 .600/.600 113+2 cam with stock 241 heads

I wouldn't worry about valve seals.
When I did mine at 176k miles I did..... Cam, pushrods, springs, ls6 oil pump, timing chain, and gaskets.

I would definitely find a ls6 oil pump. My oil pressure is so much better than it was with the stocker.

Lifters, lifter trays, timing chain and sprockets, valve springs, valve seals, trunion upgrade, pushrods, front cover and front main gaskets, oil pump o-ring (some forget) water pump gaskets, valve cover gaskets... There's probably a few things I'm missing.

Get a balancer install tool to put the pulley back on. There was a member that sold them on here for like $20. Some people use the bolt, but that's a gamble on stripping the snout. I did use an ARP pulley bolt and install tool.

Trunions would definitely be worth it if ya got the extra cheese. Also plan on a tune as well. I wouldn't pull the heads either just to put a cam in. I know some disagree because of the mileage, but unless you beat the crap out of it everytime, you'll be fine.
They're several guys on here that have over 200k with cams and original lifters.

Not to get off topic...but you're saying you can do a cam swap without pulling heads?
assuming lifter trays hold lifters in when cam is pulled?

You'll need two 5/16" wooden dowels to do so, but yes you can do it.

Why in hell anyone would go through all the trouble of installing a cam and upgrading everything else, but not do lifters and trays, is beyond me.

Sure, several folks have done it. Does that make it right, or safe?

I used the wood dowels too. I just didn't want to pull stock heads just to put stock heads back on.

I agree its good to replace the lifters too, but not necessarily a must do. Its good for piece mind though. I'm kind of glad I didn't now after all the failed ls7 lifters that have been popping up.

BTW anything Dr whigham says is pretty much golden. He's pretty much spot on with any advice given. So what he said is absolutely right, I was just pointing out lifters aren't a must with a cam install.

Didn't want it to sound like I was disagreeing

I can't agree with this more, your only going to do the work one time hopefully, so do it right. Just my 2 cents.

It sounds like you have a fairly well thought out upgrade, and I'm eager to see the results of the cam, as I've yet to NOT be impressed by anything Geoff churns out. I'd just hate to see a lifter collapse or spin and take out your cam, or worse, your block and heads.

That's really not a crazy amount of lift though, and there's plenty of good spring choices out there that won't be excessive in the spring pressure category, as well as Geoff's lobes being fairly gently on the valvetrain.

Keep us posted on what you do, as well as the results!

I would also suggest injectors and a fuel pump. Your stock ones may have a wee bit of trouble keeping up lol I planned on doing lifters when I got different heads so that's the only reason why I didn't do them when I did my cam swap, the parts I bought were:

Texas-Speed Tsunami camshaft
Double roller timing chain
Patriot dual valvesprings
jegs pushrods
racetronix fuel pump
racetronix fuel pump harness
racetronix #42 injectors
Melling high volume oil pump

And my car also has 140k miles and runs great lol

im at 206xxx and just now doing a cam and head swap. At 204xxx I did the headers, UD, LS6 intake, PP TB/MAF and a tune. So it can be done.

I hope i dont jinx my self....LOL!

i'll save me some more and do injectors and fuel pump later.

I've seen a lot of lifter failures 5-10k after install. I guess the chance of such depends on how much your car gets driven.

I drcided against a cam just bc I don't want to risk a perfectly good motor for 40-50 whp. I decidd I'd rather spray on it.

good luck with your choice.

HUH? !!! wtf? what lifters are failing? and have they (who ever they is) come up with a reason?

and here I am replacing my perfectly working lifters on a motor that has given me NOT 1 bit of internal problems.
