Default By pass stock transmission cooler or not?

I was wondering if anyone has ever by passed the stock trans cooler and just used a aftermarket one. Would I see lower temps with the stock cooler or would having the stock one in the loop have better cooling?

You will see lower tranmission temps without it. Make sure you get a big cooler like this one.

Use the stock cooler as well. It takes some of the heat out and the transmission cooler takes the rest out.

The stock cooler actually isn't just a cooler. Its there to warm the trans up and keep it from overheating. If you disconect the stock cooler in cold weather the trans is never going to get up to proper operating temps.

Personally, I would bypass the factory cooler. If you've ever experienced cooler failure with the strawberry milkshake mixture, you know why.

If you bypass the stock cooler, you might have problems if you get into stop and go traffic and you won't have any airflow over the aftermarket cooler. Keep the factory cooler and run the aftermarket too.

Just run a big aftermarket on in front of the radiator. The stock cooler in series with an aftermarket one will cause the transmission temps to get hotter quicker but won't allow it to cool as fast. Also if your radiator blows you'll be getting coolant in your transmission lines.

I run just a big cooler and I live in ct where it's cold and my car runs fine. Just let it warm up a little first before beating on it

The tranny does not like to be overcooled. I run the stock in radiator and a medium to smallish TruCool plate style cooler with a viscosity based "thermostat" feature that is supposed to route the cold fluid right back to the outlet and only run through all the plates if hot and thin.
Once the weather drops into the 40s it actually still runs cooler than I would like and I endup putting cardboard on the aftermarket cooler.
My tranny is like 9 years old running 11s at over 4000lb. for the last 6-7 of those so IMO this works. Tranny is nothing fancy either many stock clutches, servos, no upgraded hardparts atall.
