Default Mystery O-ring! Help!

Long story short I messed up and tapped the crank plug while removing the pilot bearing out of my ls1. I dropped the pan and retrieved the plug. While I was cleaning my pan I found this o-ring sunk at the bottom.

Any ideas? From the oil pump maybe?

Yeah, looks like oil pump if that is the rear plug for the crankshaft.

I wonder how long its been down in there. Never noticed any problems other than a leak from the valve covers.
How would I get it bank on there?

Yup, that's an oil pump o-ring.
I bet the previous owner dropped the ring in the pan and just used another one instead of fishing it out.
It doesn't just come off of the pick-up tube.

If that O-ring was missing you would have very low to no oil pressure. Like mentioned, the way it's installed on the pick-up, impossible to come off let alone in one piece. Are you the original owner?

I also feel the pick-up O-ring is bigger than the diameter of the pilot hole and a darker blue....Is there suppose to be an O-ring in that general area?

What is the diameter of the O-ring you have there?

I cant think of anywhere else this o-ring would go to. Dipstick o-ring is puny. The original owner claimed he had the oil pump swapped.

Bingo. Oil Pump O-ring. You obviously have good oil pressure, so as someone already stated, they dropped it in there and never bothered to fish it out.

I know this is off topic now, but any ideas on how to install a new crank plug?
