Default Anyone tried a 387, bore 4.125x3.622? Any draw backs?

Recently I have been discussing a build using an LS1 sleeved block with a stock crank and a LS7 bore of 4.125. With this, I would run PRC 285 LS7 heads, and LS7 intake to maximize the flow allowed by this bore. My question is has anyone tried this and if so, what are the draw backs if any? I'm thinking this could be a really cool build, BUT that said, it's so unique I'd guess there's a reason it's not done frequently.

That'd be a fun motor to spin 8500rpm

The combo could work but it would require quite a bit of money to do what your looking to do and a 408 with good heads could be built instead and make similar power.

I was going to say you might have trouble finding a piston, but I see Wiseco makes a 4.125" bore piston for the 3.622 stroke. You'll need to match up the right rods to fit the pistons of course. Although, if I had a sleeved LS1, personally I would go with a 4" stroke and make a 427.

Those combos used to be more prevalent back like 10 years ago. They didn't make quite the torque of a 408 but would out power them due to the huge bore.

I wouldn't run a 285cc LS7 head on it. You don't have enough cubes. Or you'll have to spin it to 8k plus. The 265 LS7 heads would be a little better. Either way you are still looking at a 7500+ RPM engine which would be fun.

The 427 would be a possibility as well, for sure.

Before the C6 came out, guys with C5s would use the C5R block, and because of displacement rules under certain racing situations, they'd use the 3.622" stroke for road racing.

SW had a 393 like that back around 02-03. 4.155" x 3.622" with a Darton sleeved block I believe.

That car still exsist here in the metroplex. Article White FRC, 393. I wasn't aware it was an all bore motor.

I think it was all bore. He used to have the GM T-1 suspension on it. Does he still own it?

The baddest car he ever had was that black single turbo Supra.

I believe he's two owners removed now. It sold last year off of the forum, off of the owner that bought it from SW. It was a sharp ride, running Fiske FM5's.

High revving v-8s are just plain cool.

I am pretty sure he hit bottom 9's in that setup. I believe it spins to 9000+ rpms too. Obviously, not a cheap setup. Your average run of the mill stroker will be much cheaper.

Listen to this thing for God's sake haha

That is just plain awesome. I don't think anything I have built will be spinning to 9K, but wow. RPM's what fun!
