Default small 10 mm head bolt pulled threads from the block HELP!!!

Well my buddy made a mistake and torqued the small head bolts a long the lifters too tight and one pulled the threads out of the block. What now? I saw that people use the time serts. For the bigger had bolts but what are his options for those small ten mm bolts? It was the middle bolt on the row of head bolts on top of the lifters. Any help would be appreciated. It is a ls1 aluminum block with only 30k miles.

Yeah thats what I figured but I saw a lot of people saying they wouldn't work for the bigger bolts and wasn't sure if they would be ok for the smaller ones. Even though they are torqued a lot lighter then the big ones. Just wanted to make sure. Thanks.

i work for the military and when ever we make anything out of aluminum we use helicoils in them, if you run a bolt in aluminum a bunch of times you will wear out the threads

You say 10mm head, but no one sizes bolts by the head, so please don't but a 10mm helicoil kit. The thread size is 8mm-1.25.

Yeah I knew the threads weren't 10mm but I was just about to ask if anyone knew the thread size so you answered it before I could ask. Thanks a lot everyone.

With free shipping.
Just make sure that the inserts are long enough for your application.

Time-Sert, 8mmx1.25 for the smaller bolts, cleaner, stronger than the out dated heli-coil technology.

Time serts are last resort , heli coils first and if the hole is too far gone then time serts . You don't go for the last resort first

They're not that critical of a fastener in the first place. A standard helicoil kit from the parts store works perfectly.

thanks a lot guys. Helicoil worked great. I would agree that time serts should be used last. After all the reading I have done, it appears that if a time sert fail you are really screwed. Would rather have helicoil go, then drill out slightly larger and go with a time sert so at least I have two steps. Thanks alot for everyones help!!!

Really? If your going to lay out the money for Cheesy heli coil why not step up and get a Time-Sert kit? A much better thread repair, especially in something as critical as a head bolt...

you use the heli coil first and if the hole is that messed up then you go with the time serts , you don't want to go too big if you don't have too . Also if you screw up drilling the heli coil atleast you have something to fall back on , what happens if go straight to the time sert and screw that up , no what you going to do weld it up
