Default Cam suggestion: Max effort LQ4

Hey guys. I've done some research on cam selection but would like to get some first hand support. I just picked up a lower mile 07 LQ4 engine. I don't want to touch the block or have to fly cut pistons. I will most likely be using the PRC 2.5 LS6 heads, but am open to other options in the same price range. For now the engine will have an LS6 manifold and ported/polished stock TB. My firebird is an M6 with 3.73 rear gears...

I want it to be a somewhat "max effort" setup. Not looking for peak numbers as much as actual performance. The engine will probably have around 10:1 compression with the 64cc heads from what I've heard. Any info or past experience is much appreciated.

How do you feel about flycutting? I ran a 238/242 .595/.595 112 lsa can in my stock cube 346 with a 4,000 stall and it was just a little bit on the large side...same cam un my 408 felt too small so since your engine is in the middle of my two is look at this cam.

I got lucky and on tear down of my old ls1 you could see marks where the valves had just touched all of the pistons but didn't hurt anything...with even a small flycut they wouldn't have come close.

I am runnung a comp cam similar to the texas speed torquer v2 in my car. I ran 11.60s with the 317 heads on motor, and I just installed a set of stage 3 heads with 2.08 in valves with no fly cutting, and also have comp rockers that raise the cam lift. Hopefully I can go deep into the 10s with the heads and a few changes. You could also benefit from a custom grind cam for a sponsor.

I've actually been looking at the xer281hr. Was that with a 112 LSA? What were you trapping in the 1/4 cam only?

Thanks!

Our Stage 3 TorqueMAX cam which is 235/243 .621"/.624" 111+2 is what I would consider max effort for a heavy GTO.

You can run this cam with the PRC heads@64cc. I would consult with the guys at TSP to see if you could possibly go even smaller on the chamber because I know that they sink the valve seats in slightly for every bit of available p to v.

Thanks for the info Martin! This will actually be going in my 91 firebird with a 6.0. The car is relatively light (3350-3400). How would that change things?

Then yes, I would highly recommend the torque max Stage 3 for your heavier vehicle. I consider anything over 3400lbs. race weight pretty heavy! This is coming from a guy that owns a 2700lb. F-body!!! LOL 3400lbs. may not be heavy to some, but to me it's a pile of lead!!!

Damn that's a light f body! Haha... mines still a full weight street car, hence the porkiness. Thanks for the info! I'll definitely look into that cam.

Yea she's a featherweight! After adding weight to meet class rules it sits at 3150lbs.
