Rotella oil in a gas engine
Hey guys
i'll be purchasinga HKE 408 longblock from a board member and I was told that it doesnt have no more than 2500 miles on it and He told me to use Rotella diesel oil in it. (15/40W) Would I be hurting it being Thick on the Crank?? Is it safe?

He used Rotella due to the high ZDDP levels it carries. ZDDP is a high zinc and Phosphorous additive in oil added for wear protection. It's a good thing to run.
No, it shouldn't hurt the motor hurt the motor.

On a side note, if you have emissions in your state, then this oil will cause you to potentially fail it. The sniffer will pick up the extra ZDDP and cause a rise in PPM on the test. The additive ZDDP is was reduced in engine oil for gas motors by up to 75% for this reason. Since most diesels dont have emissions, it remains in that engine oil.
